Has anyone tried this case or have thoughts about it?

Its about half the weight of a Tuff Pak, has wheels and looks like it would be easy to get to the rifle for inspection. Orvis advertises it for shotguns.

It does not specifically look like it has rifles in it so it would blend in with the other luggage.

The inside case is foam padded and lockable. The duffle on top would be handy.

I wonder about security

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

it won't fool the airline people, baggage handlers etc. this bag has been around for a while.

i have a similar one --- only complaint is if you don't fill the duffel everything inside slides around and moves when the bag is "handled" (thrown) or put on end to use the wheels.

this is a pretty expensive set up $229 for the outer case and $295 for the aluminum gun case.

mine was made by americase who also make aluminum gun cases. i'll sell you my canvas case as above for $125 plus shipping. it was used 2 - 3 times and has a smal tear but otherwise fully servicable.

The duffel weighs 12.5 lbs without the gun case.

Add the weight of the aluminum gun case (15 lbs), plus one (10lbs)(or two [20 lbs]) guns, and you're probably close to 50 lbs before you put anything at all in the top section.

Those laws of physics are pretty damned unforgiving.......

But it's a cool idea.

Everybody has their favorite but aluminum cases suffer when they fall/get thrown from planes!

TuffPak all the way.

Thanks for the thoughts.

I keep trying to find something better than my short Tuff Pak but can't seem to do it.

The only thing I don't like about it is that its a little bit of a hassle pulling the rifle parts out of the break down soft case while the the soft case is still in the Tuff Pak.

All things considered, I guess Tuff Pak is still the best choice. My usual luggage:

I HAVE TRAVELLED A LOT - AFRICA, USA, ENGLAND,SCOTLAND, WALES, ESTONIA, FINLAND & RUSSIA USING AN AMERICASE WITH THEIR CORDURA OVERCASE. NEVER ANY DAMAGE IN 5 OR 6 YRS OF USE.

THE OVERCASE IS HELD ON BY VELCRO AND YOU CAN OPEN THE CASE BY RELEASING THE FLAPS THAT COVER EACH END AND THE FRONT. GREAT FOR ONE DOUBLE RIFLE.

IT WOULD ALSO FIT NICELY INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE ABOVE CANVAS BAG.

I use an SKB 4-gun case, take out the center divider, and it's perfect for 2 guns in soft cases (which you will need anyway), a screwdriver set, spare scope, knives, and binoculars. Comes in at exactly 48 lbs. That exact configuration has been to Africa 3 times now with no problems at all.

I don't think there is a configuration that works equally well for protection, access, and cargo hauling capability. They are what we call contradictory goals.

Bag #2 is a medium-sized duffel with ammo and most of everything else, although I'm going to try a lightweight molded "footlocker" that just nails the maximum size allowed.

I also use the Tuff Pak break down case for my double, shotguns and take down rifles.

What I do is use a Boyt shotgun case, the kind with a side pocket for an extra set of barrels. Like shown here. (Can be obtained cheaper at numerous outlets, this is MSRP)
http://www.boytharness.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPa...1_42&products_id=293

I put the barrels in the side pocket, stock/action in the case and fold it over before sliding it into the case.

Then the 2nd and 3rd gun the same way, putting the folded over portions of the cases around the inside of the Tuff Pak as I slide them in for maximum padding around the rifles.

For inspection, you need not even remove the cases, simply unzip and lift out the stock/action or barrel, leaving the case in place.

Even with 3 guns in it, I've always had it come in under 50 pounds.

I pack a couple of lightweight padded rifle cases in my luggage when I take scoped rifles for use on the hunt. Shotguns and doubles without scopes, just use the boyt case on your hunt.

I love the take down case as it has come through with the regular luggage on about 5 trips to international hunting destinations so far. Looks like some business man's display container.
