FrostbitWhat are friends for
Gentlemen,
Those of us that have frequented the Double rifle forum have learned much here. Cal Pappas has shared his wisdom free of charge. BTW, buy his books....Christmas is coming.
We all know that Shootaway and Cal have not seen eye to eye as to the proper value and use, not to mention the proper method of holding and shooting, a double rifle.
I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to, luckily at little cost, been tutored by one of our own on the proper handling of a long arm, be it single barrel or double.
I shared this incredible opportunity with Cal and he insisted I share it with all.
This is truly how to get the most from your firearm. Notice how stable a platform this presents.
An early Merry Christmas to all!!

The NorwegianI understand your point and thank you for sharing this vital knowledge and information with us.
However I am not sure about this when it comes to a Nitro Express Caliber.. but sure it works for a .22 ....

By the way - the book from Cal is on its way

cal pappasGentlemen:
This photo speaks volumes. So many that I will temporally forgo my next book project on the .577 and produce a book on this photo above and also on the wisdom gleaned from Shootway. There is no doubt the Herculean gent in the photo shown here is a student of the famous Shootaway: note the style of holding the rifle, the perfected balance whilst in full recoil from a .22 short, the true quality of a bespoke rifle, the facial expression that shows extreme intelligence, etc.
I am the richest man in the world as measured by my friends here on AR and the knowledge gained there from.
Cheers,
Cal

It is with much regret that after viewing the above photograph. I have realized that my previous rifle handling has been in error. I shall immediately adjust my technique to match the above style. It will take many years to erase the shame that I feel for my erroneous rifle handling during the last three decades.
Regretfully

9.3 X 75RAw heck, that ain't nuthin' new. Frostbit obviously started from the old Creedmoor position with the barrel resting between his toes with his feet crossed. you just can't tell it from the fierce recoil. I'm just curious...do you have abnormally short legs or did you have to draw them up for the barrel to reach your toes? Quite possibly that is the shooting position an esteemed member would take when attempting to stop a dangerous game animal in the midst of a charge.

jwmInteresting technique.
Is the angle of the head intended to allow a clear view of the genital area of the target animal, to ensure that no males are accidentally shot?

I would like to take credit as the model in this fine technique demonstration but alas I was simply the photographer.
Once I shared the image with Cal, being the esteemed author and expert on trash collection and shooting techniques that he is, a request I immediately share this image was made.
The model did sign a release. I have it here somewhere. I'm certain.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

As long as the bull was over 5 years old and hard bossed with a black nose. It's all good.
