When shooting with the Army and Marines, I was taught to always keep a log book. It had the particulars of sighting, amount of shooting, etc. Is is common for double rifles to have log books and for the book to go with the rifle if it is passed to another. I have a spread sheet with loads, data, where it shot etc etc and a database of info on the gun, who worked on it and when so that could be compared to a log book. I sometimes keep targets but not often. I pass on the sheet of info IF I ever sell the rifle and the person wants it. .

Decades ago I bought a Log Book from I think MTM - gray 3-ring binder filled with sheets to record everything you would want. Top of each page were spots for caliber, make and model of gun, serial number then a spreadsheet with columns for case, primer, bullet, powder, charge, etc as well as other commetns, weather when shooting them results. I have a log book for all my guns, one book and pages for each gun. I record caliber, powder, primer, bullet, velocity and how the load shot. With the doubles I add filler if any and how the barrels shot in relation to sights. I wish I was better at recording and keeping records. Some people even keep the targets and the fired bullets. Wonder who that could be! It is so nice to be able to go back to something you have done years ago and not have to start from scratch.

I use hardbound accounting record books, 5" x 8" format, for each rifle. These are durable and easy to carry and store. They are big enough that a group can be cut from a target and pasted in with room for notation. I use a Fisher Space pen, blue ink, broad point for entries. The ink doesn't bleed or fade. Manufacturer and model number of book are Boorum & Pease Record Book No. 96314. Eagle One NRA Benefactor SCI Life SASS Life DRSS (450 NE, .375 H&H, .45-70)

I use a manila folder for each rifle I have. Keep many of my targets in each folder with the chronograph printout and load data attached. Mac

Yes. It contains each target fired with the load info, marked shots (R1,L1,R2,L2 etc) and chrono readings. I made up a data sheet where I can mark each shot on a facsimile target when fired. It and the target get put in the 3 ring binder along with load data and any other info about the rifle. When a gun goes to the range, its book goes to the range. I don't bother recording field shots

Only if there is something special about that rifle. like one rifle that will only shoot good with a specific load, or a target rifle. For the most part, no, my rifles need no books. The closest I come it taping a drop chart to the side of the stock for longer shots. Only Angels and Aviators have wings

I don't keep a log book on each gun. I do keep a reloading log and have kept a series of notebooks on range results. The reload logs go back to the early sixties for every shell loaded. The field logs are hit or miss. I'm just not a big record keeper. I only have about thirty guns, and even with my poor record keeping, I have enough notes to know what shoots in each. I just don't have that record keeping mentality. I can see the need, just lack the motivation. Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

I keep a manila folder as well for all my doubles. Initial info (on the cover) is price paid, from who, and where transferred. Then serial number, date of birth, weight and all measurements. Inside folder is cartridge info, comparable values, ammo componant info and of course targets and load data eventually resulting in a regulation load. Also includes invoices for gunsmith work and misc. notes. Creates a nice paper trail for my heirs as well. Deo Vindice, Don Sons of Confederate Veterans Black Horse Camp #780

The only "book" many have on their doubles is a coupon payment book! The bank insits on it!
