In case you have not heard, our gun laws are on the way out in Canada. They were voted down in parliament as a huge waste of taxpayers money with little or no affect on crime;it will take a few more steps to rid us of this crap but we are one step closer. Makes my day. Just maybe our borders will not be such a barrier to the shooting sports enthusiasts. Sorry to hear about your shooting spree in Texas - one guy looses it and we all pay - that never helps our cause.

I hope that you're right, Zigfreed, but as a fellow Canuck I'm not starting to hold my breath just yet. The bill has passed two readings, but still has a ways to go to become law. If it takes into effect in a year or so, it will, as currently worded, merely remove the need for a paper registration certificate that accoompanies the gun in its travels. Restricteds and Prohibiteds will remain so, but non-restricted guns will still be "registered" at time of purchase, will still need that happy phone call to the CFC for approval before changing hands. You just won't have to carry around that d**n paper reg cert with you when you hunt or go to the range.

But it is a step in the right direction. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the PC's don't lose power before the whole thing goes through.

Been a few years now, but while at Camp Perry for Nationals, ended up shooting w/ fellow from Canada and shooting XC w/ AR15 and he informed me that Canadian civilians were not permitted to own AR15's. Yet, he also stated that he could legally own an M1A(civi M14,non select fire model.) Is it illegal for you to own an AR15?? Just curious.

You can own them, but not hunt with them. They're treated like a handgun, so can only use them at shooting clubs.

Was looking at a Rem. R15 VTR in a shop the other day, as a matter of fact. Unfortunately, a waste of time.

AFA the mini-14, the really ironic thing about that is it's the gun that was used in the mass shooting at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989, and which was the impetus for the gun registry in the first place. The gun is still legal for purchase as non-restricted, and legal for hunting. 5 round mag is the only limitation. Roll Eyes

AFA as the gun registry, if there's an election called before the bill is passed, the bill dies. We're in a minority gov't situation, so you can bet the opposition parties are polling like crazy to see if this is the wedge issue that they think they can hang their hat on to win the election. Mad

I don't have any facts to back up my belief that sales of the AR15 and it's countless variants, but such sales make up a huge portion of total gun sales here in the U.S. Fortunately here in West Virginia, gun restrictions are at a minimal level and one can carry handguns concealed w/ permit or open without any permit. No mag nor caliber restrictions and AR15's are a common firearm to see either at ranges or in the field. Since our General Election/President/Congress, etc., the sale of all firearms have skyrocketed and in particular the AR15. It is not for arming the so called "militia" but due to the fiasco assault weapon ban which was repealed and many feel that another attempt will take place to ban firearms as the AR15 or some other restrictions. I hope you folks can get some relief from unjust regulations regarding firearms. Best of luck to you and take care, and I had better get back to my shop to complete another AR15 build.
