NakihunterEven British market is down???
http://auctions.holtsauctionee...o=++114627&saletype=An old calssic & what a rifle to own - original 1906 Rigby rising bite in the classic Rigby caliber 450NE
Compare that to any in the market NEW rifles - rising bite or not.

AtkinsonThe double rifle craze is in a downward spiral, has been for a year or more, why that is Im not real sure, but would bet its the greed of the African Gov. that has run safari costs out of sight, particularly in Tanzania. It was/is and always has been a limited market, that was about 20 percent of African hunters that used them. I have seen some real bargains lately, or at least I think they are real bargains! they might just get a lot cheaper.
The classic English bolt guns seem to be holding their own, probably because they can be applied to NA hunting with most folks.??

RockdocSeems cheap, as does the 1908 H&H 465. But that is a price guide. Ones i have bid on previously have gone a lot higher than estimate.

LHeym500Unless I am completely stupid, I think this rifle has been for sale before.
Mr. Dutch: I hope you win the day.

FrostbitWhat's the estimate? I don't see a price anywhere.

Heym SR20Look at the results of the March auction - prices were quite strong. Seemed to be a lot of internet bidders - mostly overseas I would think. Sterling is weak at the moment so this with stronger currencies can get good buys. There is and always be a limited market for double rifles and domestic UK market is very limited, but they are not Makins by these anymore so limited availability.

PondoroWell, if you look at for instance Champlin....some double rifles in his inventory has been there for at least 2 years and fail to sell.
I think much of the doubles on the american market are priced way over the current market, european pricing is much more sober..

Agree !!
Several H & H in the american market where asking price is approx USD 100.000,-. Been for at least 2-3 years now. THis Holts auction has a starting price at approx USD 25.000 - 30.000,-.

Dutch44I have bought a number of doubles from all the auction houses. Buyer beware if you do not inspect it yourself. Do NOT rely on the description given by any auction house. However, I have found Julia's to be very accommodating when you call them and to be pretty accurate. Rock Island and Holt's maybe not so knowledgeable or accurate. They all tend to leave something out of the description. I believe it is more to do with a perceived lack of knowledge than salesmanship.
I have bought at auctions where they did not seem to know their ass from a hole-in-the ground. Due diligence is always in order. I find it better to pay a fee to have an expert look at the gun before I purchase.
