GrenadierLHeym500 - These are the specs from Holland & Holland for the factory ammo:
Bullet weight: 12-bore = 740 grains / 48 gram
Bullet diameter: .735" (Fosbery Pattern)
Muzzle velocity: *1050 ft./sec. / 320 m/sec.
Muzzle energy: *1840 ft./lbs. / 2500 joules
Service pressure: 3 ¼ tons " / 850 bar
Cartridge case: 12-bore 2 ½" / 65mm
*Note: At 100 yards the very heavy bullet retains over 90% of the velocity and 85% of the energy making the bullet truly deadly on even the largest soft-skinned game. That bullet is 1-11/16 ounces of lead. It isn't going fast but it just keeps going.
Here is the trajectory. The new gun has a 50 yd leaf and a 100 yd leaf:
And I worked this up to shoot minute of small paper plate because that's a good target:

GrenadierNice. I need to get down under and 'avago' at some bulls.
I am partial to the British stuff myself, especially the ones with the old style funky animal engravings. But I like Mac's animals, too. Who wouldn't?
All these guns are really something.
Thanks guys.

GrenadierNice collection Huvius.
I used to own a Manton & Co. just like your .22HP. Mine was in 6.5x52R (.25-35) caliber and came naked, no case or accessories. It was very light, petite and fun to shoot. I should have kept that one.

cal pappasSince I acquired a .350 no2 and some 12s and a 10 double rifles, I crave doubles that have mild recoil. The .22 HP Manton gets my heart pumping. I would like to fine one or a .280 or .300, both flanged.
Keep 'em comin.'

It is amazing now the finest gunsmiths on the planet would have their kids do the engraving. For then years I have had a love affair with my .600 Wilkes but I still can't figure out what the hell kind of critter is engraved on the action! Kind of a three way cross between a rhino, pig, and something from another world.

Cal;
I have the answer to the identification of the "critter": it is a Tasmanian Tiger, now extinct. Well read and educated in the ancient natural science, those kids of the gunmakers.

Can't tell on the photos but does yours have side clips?
These side clips are something I'm impressed with and was supprized that Merkel use to do them
13 August 2016, 09:07
Use Enough GunYes it does.

13 August 2016, 10:23
cal pappasTwo of my rifles have side clips--a .600 and .500. I like this feature very much as it adds a touch of class to an already fine rifle.

stradlingthere might be a lead mine leaking in to the water supply, up montreal way
something for sure is putting a flat spot on the not so round ''anymore if it ever really was'' marble
it rolls along just fine for a little bit then thump --- done, good god, I have done it again [some one seems to be missing the done it again part]
Anyway it matters not, because my experience always has been that of---- a loss of snot and enamel on both sides of the 458 Win----

SnowwolfeWow! So many beautiful rifles. As soon as I return from my trip will dig mine out of the safes and post some photos.
Maybe I will have shootaways approval because one is a Searcy

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

LHeym500Grenadier: Thank you for the information. Good to see a Gibbs getting in a punch.
264: I love the over shoulder shot of you and the scrub bull caught against the bank. One of yuns had the other where you wanted him.
UEG: That Merkel stands tall . What caliber?
Shoot away: Respectfully, put up or shut up. Let us see that searcy.
We have had VC, Merkel, kregoff, searcy, and chapius repsented well from the modern rifles. Where are my Heym brothen. Respectfully, we can not let the French out do us.

LHeym500UEG: I just got in (hot day). I see where you told us the Merkel is 470. Sorry for the stupid question.
Huvius: If my memory is right you also have some wonderful single shots. Thank you as well. I meant to type Greener not Gibbs in the previous post. Hot day.

This thread is too commercial.

LHeym500Mr. Biebs: Thank you for posting your 12 bore from your prior post to our database. I thank you for your help on the forum. Those cartridges look like artillery pieces. How long are the pipes?
Mr. Subsailor: Have you shot the risingbite yet?
UEG and Ozhunter: I like the older shoe lump Merkels more than the new model without cocking indicators and monobolck system.
Nothing wrong with the new ones; just my opinion. If anyone has a new Merkel, please post it. They are by all accounts weapons to be proud of. Everyone should feel like King Arthur unsheathing Excalibur when they reach for their double. I know I do.

Yeah, too commercial, like the names of Hollis, Boswell, Springer, Greener, and Gibbs. Way too commercial.
You act as though Butch is paying you by the word... You are a disservice to the Searcy brand.
I normally reserve comment but your attitude this time requires a response.

In the interest of commericalism, I present (thanks to Mr. Biebs) my 150 anniversary Heym 500. I hope this works. Please note the Prudy side clips.
Well, that did not work. But see my first post and you will get the idea.
Someone post a double rifle, so we can get back on track. Thank you Mr. H.

I for one am still waiting for George to tell us why his PH had to practically rebuild that Searcy to get it to fire in Zimbabwe.
