Presented is a .500 Linebaugh shotgun to rifle conversion I've finished up. It started life as a 20 bore shotgun, then converted to the .500 Linebaugh revolver cartridge for the client to hunt driven deer in New York. It was also restocked by me using a stunning piece of Turkish walnut!

WARNING-beginner photography!

Beautiful gun!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

Aaron,

Simply stunning gun and outstanding craftsmanship on your part! Beautiful wood and especially impressed by your checkering work. Photography is no beginner quality either. Few questions if you don't mind:

  • Is it a sidelock or box lock with plates?
  • Who manufactured it as a shotgun?
  • How much work to build barrels to fit the fram
  • Does your checkering pattern go over the top of the grip, bit hard to tell from a blown up photo
  • Interesting caliber choice-How does it shoot and how much effort to regulate it?

Congratulations again, you should be proud of that work.

Paul

My gripes with the photography is due to clarity and focus issues, still working on it.

This gun in particular is a true sidelock made by Spanish maker Armes Garbi.

the checkering pattern is wrapped over the top of the wrist, I did brake the patterns though, later discovered that wasn't necessary.

I believe the client picked this caliber due to hunting in areas that are shotgun or straight walled case calibers only, but not 100% certain. It regulated with 1 1/4" spread at 50yds and was completed in under 50rnds.

One can view the .700ne build thread by Buckstix to better understand my building methods:

25 years ago I had an early Linebaugh .500, serial 89 (if I recall correctly) and thought back then it would make for a wonderful rifle cartridge with moderate recoil.

Outstanding work on this one! Beautiful fit and finish, nice lines. Everything to admire.
Congratulations to the lucky owner.

May I ask the ballistics, please?
Cal

One could certainly say that. I'm also in the process of building double rifles from scratch, but that's another thread for a future day.

Beautiful gun. Well done. I have always that crazy idea to have a .44 special or a .45colt double. The brainbug is again awoken.

Thank for sharing.

Jens,

I've got a .44 magnum build in the works for a hog and bear hunter in Georgia! Should be fun.

Many years ago I had a SxS AYA .410 shotgun. I soon realized a .38WCF fitted snugly into the chambers. Ever since I have fantasized of a doublerifle on a .410 framed action in a Colt or S&W cartridge. Maybe a .44Mag could do..?..
