I'm new here, as well as new to double rifles. Have put one box of norma vulcan 232 through my new merkel 141e. That is what the test target indicated it was regulated with at 50 yards. My rt barrel shoots about a 4 in group about 2 inches high, and about 4 inches left of point of aim. Left barrel shoots about a 6inch group centered about 3 inches right and low of point of aim. Also, twice the left barrel would not strike the primers hard enough to fire them. could it be the ammo? Or do I need to call Merkel usa?

If this is a 9.3X74R try a box of 286 grain ammo. They are usually regulated with the heavy slugs. NRA Life ASSRA Life DRSS Today's Quote: Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. your need to try some other ammo, that's why doubles and regulation of them is so tough.

#1 are you shooting fron a rest,if so dont or do not let the rifle rest on the rest but on your hand #2same brand right doubles are meant to be shot off hand.from a rest it may shoot off.were the primers marked if so i would say the ammo but if not there is a firing pin problem you are using snap caps to dry fire right if not you will fracture the pins.if this does not help call the boys at merkel they will help they have been good to me hopr this helps a little DRSS,SCI. If you do not have the original paperwork call "Merkel USA" and find out what they regulated it with. Also shoot it off hand a bit before you "bench" it. When shooting off bags pile them up high so you can have your upper body in the same position as shooting off hand. Have your front hand suported by the bag, but do not use any rear buttstock suport. Also shoot another rifle of known accuracy in the same manner to get a comparasion of your accuracy when shooting from that position. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

I just bought a new 141E yesterday. My paperwork indicates that it was regulated with 15 gram (232 grain) Normal Vulcans. You might also try 250 grainers in reloads. Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two

In the first place the rifle is crossing! That means the bullets are too fast, and the substitution of the 286 gr bullets will slow them down, and come closer to regulation. The 141 Merkel has a regulation jackscrew regulation facility, I think, but I wouldn't jack around with that till I tried some ammo with heavier bullets. Like others have stated here, it is my suspicion that you are shooting improperly from a sand bag rest, or GOD forbid, using a LEAD SLED. Never use a lead sled with a double rifle, and the proper way to rest a double rifle is that it touches nothing but your hands, shoulder, and face. Let me explain! A double rifle is designed to be fired off hand from a cool barrel set, as you would when hunting! The regulation in a double rifle depends on the recoil arch to shoot to regulation. When fired the right barrel recoils back, up, and to the right, instantly heating. The left barrel fired shortly after the right barrel recoils back, up, and to the left. What this does is, let each muzzle be pointing at the place where the sights were pointing when the trigger was pulled. To see what I mean, take the barrels off your rifle, and place them in a padded vice, with the sights aligned on an aiming point on the target. Now look though both barrels. You will see that the RIGHT barrel will be pointing at a point on the target that is LOW, and LEFT of the point of aim, and vice versa for the left barrel. This means when the rifle is fired during them time the bullet is traveling down the bore,(called barrel time) the muzzle will be aligned on the point of aim on the target when the bullet exits the muzzle, if the load is proper for the regulation. If the shots cross, then the load is too fast, and if they shoot wide (right on the right, and left on the left, and usually high) then the load is too slow. The load can be adjusted to shoot slower, or faster with the same powder load when using a heavier, or lighter bullet respectively. Before I messed with the regulation screw, I would try a load with a heavier bullet. The 286 gr bullet is the best all around bullet for the 9.3X74R cartridge anyway. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress, because there are a number of people on this website who can help you, and are more than willing to do so!
