Anyone with a double chambered in 7X57R care to give me your thoughts on how you like the round?

Thanks in advance!

No experience with DRs in that caliber, but lots with the 7x57 rimless; a perfect round for small deer type stuff, IMO. I use only 139/140 bullets; If I need a heavier bullet, then I need more powder to push them with.

I just bought a cape gun in 16 gauge 70mm x 7x57R. I'm looking forward to the answers here, too. I won't get to fool with the rifle until I get back from Africa in mid-June.... Can't wait!

I own a Winchester Model 70 FWT chambered in 7x57. It is a very soft shooter and great for deer sized hunts. I would want this caliber in something I could shoot at longer ranges with optics so, I passed on a nice Chapuis in 7x65R. I'm eyeing a 30-30 version which would still be good for deer at reasonable ranges and better for feral hogs that may cross my path.

are you looking for a vintage gun or a modern. I have never had a 7x57R but love my 1953 FN model 98. It is my go-to rifle.

7x57R started it all for me - not in a double but in a Bruno ZH O/U combo - 7x57R/16ga70. Got it from my Old man - thats him back in late 60s with one of his stags

and me in my beginnings nearly 2 decades later.

I was using it for +10 years exclusively - from fawns, chamois, roebucks, stags, boars...haven't shot a bear with it tho - still it would be just fine IMO.
Rifle liked heavy bullets - most of the game was taken with 177gr RWS ID (former TIG) bullet - here is one from a big boar:

Very popular round in my parts - you'll like it.

Rusty, I own a Tikka O/U chambered in 7x57R. I also own a CZ in 7mm Mauser. I really like both rounds. Soft shooting and accurate. Europeans like a round to do the job, rather than the American penchant for a round that will do "everything" ala 7mm Mag, 300 Win, mag etc. (of course I also own guns in those calibers!!!)
Just my 2 cents, Peter.

Rusty, it's a great cartridge! I have used it for years in my 16/16/7x57R drillings. Ironically, I have not owned a DR in this calibre. Several years ago, at SCI, I purchassed a pre war sidelock 2 barrel drilling set. One of the barrels is 7x57R/7x57R/28 ga.(yes, 28 ga.) double rifle drilling. Never had a chance to fool with it. If I ever get off my ass, I'll list it here on AR first. Good luck!

Whilst not a double, a mate of mine hunts with a Blaser Baroness single shot. A sweet light but balanced rifle with light recoil but ideal for deer sized game stalking.

Rusty, as you know the 308WCF is one of my most favorite hunting rifle calibres.

Powerwise in the hunting field, I would consider the 7X57R its equal in break open guns.
