There was a very interesting article in Rifle magazine that was re-printed on the Merkel website if anyone is interested in Merkel double rifles, or double rifles in general. http://www.merkel-usa.com/news...111&cHash=bb97603184 ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Hey JD how goes it? I'll try some of that H4895, I just happen to have a pound of it. I use that in my 8X57JR with 196 gr RN bullets. It is a muledeer lightening strike...DEAD RIGHT THERE! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I think it was a pretty good article, only one big error. Double rifles are not suppose to cross at any distance. The author doesn’t believe you can shoot bouth barrels and hit something past 50 yards. I think we could make some party money on that one. The Merkel is a great example of current production rifles. Yes you can try to gussey one up and call it a ----- and ask 3 times the money but it will still shoot well and last a long time. I notice that as well Bill!
This is what I've always said, most of the misconceptions that go around among shooters about double rifles are simply repeated mistakes made by gun rag writers! This one is the most repeated, and is the reason others who know no better use this to claim a double rifle can't be used for longer range shooting on game. The double rifle makers are responsible for this misconception because they state two different "REGULATIONS" and the unschooled take them to be the same thing. The barrel's regulation is one and the regulation of the sights is the other! In their features list they state, "This rifle is regulated at 50 mtrs!" This is taken to mean that the lines of bullet flight cross at that distance, and that is not what it means. All this is the standing sight is cut to be half way between the centers of each barrel's individual group, forming a composite group of BOTH barrels at 50 MTRS. Using the word "REGULATE" in regard to the cutting of the sight, and for the adjusting of the barrels convergence both is a serious mistake by the maker without explaining what it means, and actually hurts sales, because of the misconception that the rifle is only good to 50 yds! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith
