I have a hard time seeing the front bead of my 500/416 on a dark target. Any suggestions?

You can't beat a red fibre optic

Ditto

P.S. Not just against dark surface - also easier to pick than golden bead in autumn woods/dry grass or silver/white bead in snovy winter woods especially on moving targets that are usually black or greyish/brown.

OK, so where do I get a fiber optic front sight that will fit my Kreighoff?
Thanks, Peter.

Peter,

You should be able to get one off the shelf at any local gunshop and if they don't have one that'll fit, I'm sure they'll be able to order one for you.

Alternatively, try somewhere like Cabelas.

I'd recommend you buy a spare one as well as they don't last forever. My rifles get hard use and I reckon to have to change mine about every year or two.

Thanks! Are these things threaded or glued in?
Peter.

Peter:

I bought my 500/416 K-gun used from our friend Garby. He had a simple solution to your problem. He just got some really bright nail polish and painted the existing bead. It works great! Talk to your wife and see if she is got any really bright red or pink nail polish and give it a try before you replace the bead.

Peter

They fit in just like any other foresight. The easiest way is to take the rifle to the gunshop and have them do it while you wait.

FWIW, I've tried all kinds of things such as nail varnish, paint, ivory, warthog ivory, gold and silver etc etc over the years........... and nothing comes even close to those red fibre opic sights....... The reason they're so much better than anything else is that they gather available light, whereas everything else just reflects it.

Peter, you can get the front sight flourescent beads from Midway or NECG. Some slide in with a friction fit and others have a set screw. The plastic insert actually glows as it captures some light unlike a painted bead. Bob.

I have just replaced the original front sight on my Krieghoff 500NE with one from Recknagel (www.recknagel.de). They have different models that will fit.

Well, this is not easy. The front sight on my K gun is NOT easily removeable. It is NOT pinned in but rather seems to be sweated in from the front and then the front is "engraved" for want of a better term. If I could find a fiber optic sight that was an exact replacement I might go for it, otherwise I might just put the scope back on and keep it at 2x, or figure that at 15-20 yards it may not make much difference! Litespeed thanks for the tip. I will check them out.
Peter.
