Is the 450/400 the same frame size as the .470 and .500?

Rusty - definitely longer than 24"... either 25" or 26".

500grains - Yes, it would be on the same frame size as the 470/500.

As you can see in the 470 photo below there definitely isn't too much steel in the barrel walls at the breach.

Comparatively speaking, this frame is small and would be well suited for the 450/400.

Target weight would be 9-9.5 lbs.

With hammer forged barrels one doesn't need as much wall thickness. The barrels were considerable thicker before the hammer forgeing. What you are looking at is 1/3 more thickness compressed down by the hammering to the thickness you see in the finished product! Hammer forged barrels are tough stuff! That rifle would be great chambered for 450/400 NE 3"

The action of the Heym .470 is too small for caliber, and the gun too light. Weight distribution is poor because of it. This action is actually smaller than that of my .450/.400 3". I would think 26" barrels with a lot of contour on this action might bring the .400 in at 9.5 lbs or so, with much better handling qualities than the .470. I think the .400 Jeffery would sell very well.

I sure wish they would precut the rib for scope mounts like Chapuis does.
