It is close to regulation with the 405 grain Remington factory ammo. Didn't really try to do any adjusting tonight just blasting for fun. At 25 and 50 yards kept all hits within the 5 1/2 Orange center of an International 100 yard Schuetzen target. They are crossing slightly but within adjustment I think.
They guy I bought it from included a Limb Saver slip on recoil pad. With the pad recoil was similar in feel too a 28 gauge shotgun.

Congratulations!
Have had mine worked on so that the action opens all the way, triggers are lighter, back trigger lengthened slightly, AND triggers moved back so that middle finger doesn't hit the trigger guard. The gun is now a gem.

Mine in 30-06 has been a great rifle, especially for $600 out the door NIB! Enjoy yours, I think most everybody that owns one, likes it.

After shooting the Remington factory 405 grain ammo I was impressed by the lack of recoil and accuracy. Is this load sufficient for deer and hogs out to 100 yards or so? I am not currently set up to reload 45-70. I have been researching loading info online and it is confusing.

Yes, factory loads are fine for deer and hogs. If you want to reload, (which you definitely should) yes, there is too much info on the web for a newbee. But loading is very easy; get a Lee loader for 20 bucks and start from there; You will learn by doing, and reading. I loaded over 2000 rounds with a Lee loader before I got a press and for a 45-70, it will work fine. I will help any way I can; PM me.

Thanks for the offer. When I do start reloading I want to duplicate the Remington 405 grain load.
I saw the stock you designed with the Bavarian styled check piece have you designed one more in the English style with a small cheek piece?

This one is on a Baikal 45-70; built on an old 16 ga shotgun (which have 12 ga frames.

Awesome stock design sir. I tried a bubba fix for the making the front sight on the
Baikal easier to see. My wife has paint makers filled with golden metallic paint. It makes the front sight stand out. Will shoot it tomorrow for regulation if the range isn't too busy, might have to actually do some range officer stuff if there are people shooting. Has anyone tried the PriviPartizan 405 grain 45-70 ammunition?

I did the same thing to my front sight except I used a white enamel paint pen. Works great!

Just remember if your front post is flat you'll be fine with gold but if it's a bead gold tends to cause you to shoot left or right if the sun hits from the side.

Is anyone offering custom stocks such as this for the Baikals?

Zgun, they are fun, aren't they? Bear in mind, though, that heavier handloads quickly get to be a handful in the recoil department. The Speer 405 at much more than 1500 fps was getting uncomfortable in the one I had.

I an on either using Remington factory or loading 405 grain bullets to 1200-1300 fps. I have adhesions in my shoulders and that energy level should be sufficient for deer and hogs out to about 150 yards.

Tried regulating today. I was rotating the jack screw towards the muzzle and the impacts were moving to the right However R5 went back to the left. Not sure I have enough adjustment to get them where they are not crossing. It started to storm so I had to cut it short today.

Tried some of the PPU 405 grain ammo and it seems to give the same recoil as the Remington factory loads.

Do you think I should keep turning the jack screw towards the muzzles or resort to shims around the right barrel?
