Griz,
Congrats, it's a far better place you are in now!
As to recoil. We are pretty close to the same size. I've had five 9.3x74's and a x62. Two have been Chapuis'. One Chapuis smacked me right smartly, as did the other double. The other Chapuis does not, in fact it's a pleasure to shoot, as is the x62. I am convinced that stock fit is everything. If the stock fits, a 9.3 can be a pussy cat, if not, it's an SOB that will put a knot on your cheek. I used to refer to my other Chapuis as my red headed girl friend, because every time I touched her, she slapped me.

Welcome to heaven.

Haaaaa haaaa haaaaa funny way to wrap up your description Bfly ! I just posted a new discussion showing my target and after 16 rounds, the recoil wasn't bothering me. So.... I'm curious ? What's the next step after the 9.3x74 ??????? Wink

You need a 500NE to match. That will give you a "light medium" and a "heavy". Put a detach scope on the 9.3 and you'll have a great "double / double" safari battery. I've used it twice now, once with the 577NE and once with the 500NE as the heavy. But the 9.3 has handled all the other stuff with aplomb, including lion.

Where to from here?
Here is my simple set of steps to follow:
buy ammo, shoot, reload/buy ammo, shoot, go hunting, buy supplies, shoot, go hunting, shoot. In the mean time, save some money, go to Africa. Repeat as necessary.
