Check in with mdstewart here on AR. He may be able to get one or have a lead for you.

Thanks Doc. Thought I would check with my AR brothers first for a used rifle. I have been in contact with my local dealer and GSI actually has several coming in soon, so if I dont find a used one I can drive to Alabama and hand pick a new rifle.

I might be wrong but I seem to recall that Todd Williams' 500 is a Merkel. He has a new Verney-Carron in that caliber on the way. I think he has a hunt coming up and after that, he may wish to part with the Merkel. You might send him a PM.

Mississippi,

Dave is correct, I do have a Merkel 500NE that I will probably want to sell after my hunt in October. Only reason for selling is that I have a VC 500NE on order. For that matter, I haven't made up my mind about selling it 100%. I have history with it including a few Elephants and Buffalo, including my first Elephant Bull.

But if you are interested, I can send you some pics. It has a coin finish, not the CCH you mentioned. It has the full coverage engraving including an Elephant on the left side and Rhino on the right. I don't know how tall you are but most over the counter doubles are built with a too short LOP. That's why you see guys asking advice here about how to get the front trigger to not bite the knuckle when firing the rear trigger. Most are built with about 14.5" LOP at the most. Mine has been lengthened to 15.5" with a 1/2" black spacer and thicker recoil pad.

Let me know if that interests you but as I mentioned, I'm not totally committed to selling it and it would be November at the earliest anyway.

Cheers
