Rimless case, could be a problem.

Othervise good, solid, heavu gun, some people have trouble keeping it regulated.

Get a god 180 grains load, the quick release mounts a low variable like a Ziess 1,5-6x42 and you are ready for all and anything that a normal 308 can handle.

try it, love it, go hunt with it.

Best regards Chris

I own a Tikka 512SD with 3 different barrel sets. However, none of them are for the 308. As pointed out this is a rimless round. In addition (and there is another thread on this by Alberta Canuck I believe) it can be a high pressure round and he experienced significant problems with some of his loads. So, be careful!
You should not have problems with the regulation as the lower barrel is adjustable.

I've fired a LOT of rounds in mine and others, 412 doubles in 30-06. And i've NOT had any of the problems the other poster had. Also i've not seen anyone else have those same problems either, with "factory or factory equivlent loads" either.

From what i can tell, the factory used max chambers and longer throats to relieve some of the pressure the rimless cartridges have.

The extractor will be fine with those loads too, it's just not as handy as a rimmed cartridge. It drags on the case some, so you can't lift the bbls and have the cartridges fall out.

I don't mean to pick on anyone, but those that have had regulation problems, just don't know what their doing. I use to get paid to regulate these guns, and i NEVER had any problems with regulation, or keeping them regulated either.

NOW, i'm speaking of the Valmet 412's, NOT the later models, as i have no real experience with then..

Just don't load, loads for it, like it's a bolt gun.

Man, those 412 bbls sure shoot!!! Check out how well the scope mount comes back to zero too!
