Guys,

What's the best place to start OAL for 500 gr Northfork FP solids in the .470 NE?

Thanks,

Mike

Since no one is answering, I will give it a go.

First, I have used the NF .474 bullets only in a 470 capstick not a 470 NE. However, when loading GS Custom and Bridger bullets, which are similar to the NF, I seat them to take up as much of the UNUSED powder space as possible. And they have never interfered with the rifling. If you are using IMR4831 or H4831 in your .470, you may find that the load is compressed. If it is heavily compressed, you may wish to try H4350 instead of IMR4831.

Mike,

Sure did ... and appreciate the input.

I do think it is very interesting that so many have viewed the thread and so few have commented.

Thanks Mike!

At this point, JJS knows more about it than anyone. I think even he used the one equipped with the older style of lands.

Mac has some but he has been under the weather and hasn't had a chance to play with them.

Ironically, they have had more use in bolt guns.

I have used North Fork (Mike's) .474", 500 grain Cup Points in the 470 NE. You should not see any powder compression with H-4831sc up to 110 grains, my max. load...108grains of H-4831sc, is a good starting load.

I seated my Cup Points to the last crimp groove...approx. 3.920" with an adequate crimp. I would start by seating the FN North Forks to the last crimp groove and check OAL function in your DR.

I used the COL for a NF as I do a regular Solid. Cant tell you what that is off the top of my head. I can measure tonight and let you know. This worked fine in my Searcy.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Mike,
I settled on COL 3.950. It is the second grove from the top of a NF. I use the same COL for GS solids.
