Love2safari is a good guy to buy from! Here are the pictures he posted in the classified!

This is not a double rifle but a Sauer Drilling, but none the less a multi-barreled fire arm that might interest the folks here!

It is a Sauer drilling chambered for 16 ga shot barrels, and a rifle barrel chambered for 8X57JRS.

I keep telling myself that someday I will get a nice drilling.
8x57 would be ideal for the rifle barrel IMO.
Congratulations on your new gun!

I was wondering what the insert was in the right barrel.

I didn't get the einstetcklauf, but I think that one is chambered for .22 W mag. I think he sold that to another guy!

The double 16 ga / 8X57JRS (.323 bullet dia)is all I wanted. I bought all the rifle ammo he had for the 8X57JRS, and I have a large supply of 16ga shot shells, and a few Brenneke slugs for the shot barrels.

I have a H. Berrella 16 ga/8X57 JR (.318 dia) cape gun as well.

These two guns will make great black bear, deer or Leopard over bait shooters.

As I said Love2safari is a great guy to do business with!

Mac, the 8x57JRS is a very good one...a friend has a Brno shotgun conversion, very nicely done in Tsjekkia, I am drooling all over it.

Those 196 grainers pack a punch...I want it for driven boar hunts in Europe..

How do you find the scope, Mac?

The Dialytan is different from most in that the erector is a prism rather than the usual lens group. I've got one from about the same time (just before to just after WWII?) but can't see what the advantage was. Modern, tactical, Hensoldts use the prism to shorten the tube but the old ones seem just as long as refraction models and the field blending on mine is not as good as that of my conventional post-war Zeiss/Hensoldt scopes.

Whatever else, you should find it holds zero long after modern scopes with constantly centred reticles have succumbed to their lifetime warranty Smiler

I find it OK but especially like the post for what the rifles is chambered for, and the use I intend putting it to.

I have another Hensoldt scope that I took off a worn out Mauser sporter barrel, along with the claw mount and bases that I intend putting on the little H. Berella cape gun as well. The bases will have to be modified so they can be installed into the rib on the Berella. Both guns are period, and so the scopes are fitting for these two older firearms.

.................Just a little play toy for an old guy that is as old as the guns and scopes! old

Hey Roscoe! Haven't seen you for some time. How have you been?

We need to get back down to the 4K and pop some more wild hogs, and little black buck antelope, and or an axis deer. I need to get in touch with Rusty to see if he has Mathews Phone number so I can set up a hunt with the little multi barreled poppers!

...............Good hunting Roscoe!

Good luck with the fitting. Though rails and claw mounts have certain advantages, I suspect German mounting provisions were designed to be a gravy train for gunsmiths. Their habit of soldering demi-rings on steel tubes really beggars belief since this required the scope to be stripped - and stripped again if you ever want to use it later on a different rifle.

...................Good to hear, Maybe Rusty, Tony, you and I could do a hunt there before the deer season starts, or in the spring after the deer hunting is over. That is the reason the 4K stopped our annual hunts, because it interfered with there deer hunts. The deer hunts are there big money maker for the ranch.

........................ It would be a lot more fun than sitting around the house for sure!

It is my coveted 22 LR one, Mac. I'm glad you weren't very interested in it. It was hard to find and will go into my early post war Sauer LUX 6.5X57R-16ga 2 3/4" drilling, replacing the 22 mag one already fitted. I use it with CB caps to pot close sitting grouse while deer hunting.

It makes little noise. Wink

Interesting read. I value your informed input regarding the scopes. Cool

My favorite scope for these older drillings is the Hensoldt 1.5-6x36. They are still prized today especially if they are in good condition. The later model that had both adjustment turrets would be preferred. I also like the S&B 1.25-4x20..all you need on a drilling.

Those are also my favorites. I've had many drillings with the Hensoldt/Zeiss 1.5-6 and had a wonderful Otto Gieger two barrel set with a 1.2-4 S&B on the 16/16/9,3X74R set.

The 20/20/243 set had a 1.5-6X42 S&B.

Yes, the Diavari D Zeiss and Hensoldt scopes do sell for more. For ultimate reliability, though, where good mounts with lateral adjustments can be found, the single-turret scopes might hold zero longer because there is less to go wrong.

In the case of modern image-movement scopes, at least, the erector tube rubbing past the windage screw under recoil must take a toll.
