OK, who photoshopped the powder burns out of the target?

They weren't powder burns but charcoal stick residue from

Great to see. Well done.

Very nice. I shot my Searcy .470 NE this morning at 50 yds. I stuck four in three inches. My nephew cut the first center hole with the second.

Thanks for the support and the other comments. I will post the other target when I get home. Same sized group a little off center. I shot that one first. I had a 100 yard taget that I shot at those holes were about 1" apart and low about 3 inches would have posted that one but stupid me fired about 5 375 H&H's at that one first so it doesn't look as good as this one. If I hadn't of shot it I would have believed either. It kind of justifies the money I sunk into the double and makes it a lot easier to sell off all those bolt actions that I won't be needing any more.

The first time I shot my Searcy 470 using WR ammo, the target looked about like that...only I didn't have a tight enough grip and the rifle doubled! Big Grin I was about to rethink the whole 470 thing until I realized I'd shot both shells. Frowner Eeker BOOM homer

I'd like Butch even if I hadn't bought one of his DR's. He spent about 45 minutes on the phone with me when I was considering my order and has spoken with me many times since. Sometimes we just shot the bull. He's a great guy to do business with.

+1, I called him up one time when I was working in Boron and asked if I could visit his shop. He took at least an hour out of his day to give me a complete tour of his shop, a free hat and other goodies. And I wasn't a customer, just a nosey visitor. It would be hard to find a nicer guy to do business with.

I live close enough to visit there again but I'd feel guilty about taking advantage of his hospitality.

Very nice. Congrats on your new rifle too.

BTW, if you try a 6:00 hold, you will find it easier to hold consistently, both vertically and horizontally, though especially vertically.

wow ! thats the exact opposite of the Merkel 470 i had, if you were lucky 2 shots might hit a target that big, one bullet at one end of the target the other at the other end of the target. Pity they dont have the Field Grade anymore ,missed my chance, among other things

Hang on a minute Mac, according to your theory on regulation, I would have thought you would have claimed those loads shown in the first post were crossing. Big Grin

Macs theory......

Any double rifle that is regulated for both barrels to hit the same hole, then the barrels are crossing at that range.

Well you thought wrong! Those rounds are all almost side by side, but are not, by themselves, a clear indication of good regulation. That will take two individual barrel groups of four to find the centers of each barrel group, in relation to each other, and to the point of aim. However I don't, unlike you, find it necessary to rain on someone else's parade, by going into it here! stir
Properly regulated double rifle's barrels shooting parallel is not theory, but fact! I think you know that already, you just want to wallow in the buffalo dung! Now I'll leave you to your muckraking! ...........BYE wave

Frank

I feel compelled to follow up on your post comments. I think you have missed some of my earlier postings. I have decided to make the transition to living with less. I am tired of stuff owning me rather than me owning stuff. My goal is to simplify rather than complicate. I have owned dozens of rifle that can shoot this well. I know that a $300 savage bolt action from K-Mart can shoot this well. I am happy that you are blessed with the resources to own several nice rifles and even a few double rifles. I made the jump a few weeks back to buy the most expensive rifle I have ever purchased this new Searcy double. I decided to go with the 450-400 express so that I could get the maximum benefit from it and use it for more game. I hate to open my safe and take 10 minutes trying to decided what I’m going to shoot that day when I go to the range and feel guilty that I haven’t shot rifle x for over a year. I like the idea that I have one double and I’ll just make due with it. Yes, I plan to keep a few bolt actions around but I’m creaming the crop. The rest will just have to find new homes. I can’t tell how liberating it is to see my gun safe emptying out and now I can see the guns I truly enjoy rather than the clutter of years of impulse buys and well I’ve always wanted one of those… If I owned two or three B. Searcy doubles right now I’d be back to square one well do I take the 450-400 or the 470 why not the 577 today… To sum it all up I feel very satisfied with my decision to get the double I have and feel very blessed that it shoots so well that I’m really not giving anything up to a bolt gun at least under 150 yards.

Happy Hunting

I'm envious of anyone whose eyes are good enough to see and use iron sights and shoot a group like that. Congratulations on what is obviously a very nice rifle from Mr. Searcy.

Brad,
I know exactly what you are talking about regarding a desire to simplify things. I'm looking down the same path myself thesedays.
That Searcy is shooting beautifully, and obviously you are doing your bit and shooting it very well.
Double rifles can be expensive, but the enjoyment they can bring is well worth the price IMO.
I'll bet you can't wait to get it out in the field!
Enjoy. tu2

Hey Rusty,
Double rifles are effectively two rifles in one, so I don't see any problem with having two .404 boltguns. Wink

Thanks for the follow up post. I wasn't sure how to read your first reply. As you know taking that first jump onto the double band wagon is a very big one for most of us. I just wanted to give Butch an additional plug because I know that I was very temped to buy a Merkel or non-US made gun. After geting my rifle in my hands I knew it was worth every penny and for it to shoot like this is just icing on the cake. For whats its worth letting a few rifles go isn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. Once I listed them on GB it was kind of freeing even though I still have them I've mentally let them go. I think by the time most people get to owning a double rifle they are at the point of wanting quality over quantity. I think that if you really thought about it you most likely do most of your real hunting with one or two guns and the rest are just fun to own. I adopted a new stance with the remaining bolt guns I have that I'm going to shoot them at the range and if they don't shoot at least as well as the double off they go. Smiler

Thanks & Have a Nice Weekend

Brad
