I was in Gander Mountain this week (for those in Houston, the one on 290) and I was shocked to find that they were selling a new Merkel 140-2 in .500 NE with game scene engraving. They were asking $10,500 or thereabouts for it. What shocked me was a store like Gander Mountain carrying a double rifle, in of all calibers, .500 NE. I thought that was pretty interesting.

I think Cabela's owns Gander Mt. now, i.e.: fine gun room.

or is it Dunn's that I'm thinking of???

Cabelas bought Dunn's a few years ago. Gander Mountain, I believe, is public company trading on NASDAQ. It had been privately owned for years, then was owned by the Holiday Corporation in Minnesota, then was spun off publicly, IIRC.
