Stainless 4-Bore Snap Action underlever
Just thought you'd like to see this rifle.
http://i339.photobucket.com/albums/n453/searcy01/SS4-Bore1_zps39c50484.jpgButch,
Are you building this for another sequel to Jurrasic Park?
I hope so. The 600 NE did not get enough use in its "Searcy Hollywood Debut" role.
Awful how the greenies tampered with the ammo and got the PH killed!
How about getting Nick Searcy (has US Marshal role on JUSTIFIED) to play the PH in the next one?
A quote from a recent Nick Searcy tweet:
"I go to the gun range, boxing class, spin class,
&Anonymous Leftist Twitter Douchebag Slapping Class for my therapy, whiner." I think Nick could heft it. Recoil tolerance is a mental attitude thing.
A stainless and walnut 4-Bore ... Now THAT is a double rifle!
24 pounds?
07 March 2014, 00:38
sc gunmanI double dog dare ya to pull both triggers at once. Especially if there is video rolling.

Idaho Sharpshooterwhat does it weigh?
That take a MAN to carry!
This rifle weighs 25 lbs. It is simply a very expensive toy, but what fun.
Nick Searcy, maybe I have a famous relative. Don't know him, sounds like a good guy.
07 March 2014, 03:09
pagosawingnutPretty certain that I don't want to pull the trigger on that one.
Butch and Nick ought to get along fine.
Nick could even afford to buy one of those big-boy toys,
since the sixth season of "Justified" on FX Channel is already "guaranteed."
The purchase could be easily "justified" by Nick.
He would probably get a stiffie just thinking about the purchase.
25 pounds sounds just right.
I know even a weakling such as myself can easily fire a 25-pounder offhand,
at least a few times before fatigue sets in, then I call for the gunbearers (plural): "Gunbearers!"
I have one early Searcy double rifle in the safe, but can't help wondering what the price of this behemoth would be?
"Walletbearers!"

cal pappasGents:
My original 4-bore Hughes weighs 22 pounds. With Blue Dot recoil is manageable with 1400-grain balls with 100 grains and up to 120 grains. 1950-grain conicals with 80 grains and up to 100 grains. Recoil is stiff but tolerable.
Black powder is another matter. GOEX FFg (Fg is about 150-200 fps slower than the same charge of FFg) kicks like hell: 390-440 grains with a 1400-grain ball is severe. With the heavier conical 390 -grains is the regulated charge and the recoil is about unbearable. Shot the conical with 440 grains once and unloaded the remainder of the cartridges!
Ballistics are on my website and in the bore rifle book.

SnowwolfeAnd a lefty to boot!
Does the person who commissioned the build have any desire to actually hunt with it?
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

JCS271Is this for hunting or just for a collection? What would be a base price for one of these in a plain jane "field grade" if I wanted one to shoot?

The PH didn't get killed. He tranqued the T-Rex. Though I always wondered what kind of a PH wouldn't know the condition of the cartridges in his chamber, and where were his other rounds?
Looks like I need to watch that one again.
The PH did get killed in the first one. I have to admit, they weren't to bad in their portrayal of the PHs in either movie.

Bob beat me to it. Any of you gents are welcome up to shoot a few doubles up to and including 4-bores and a .600 or two. Nice vacation if you have the miles to spend on a ticket, take in some fishing, and meet a few good folks.

I noticed that too.
Butch may not remember it, but way back in 1985, he converted my .375 H&H LH Remington 700 to CRF by installing a 70 extractor and ejector. Neat job in the days before Winchester made LH actions.
This one attracts me, but I already have Jim Bell's old H&H 500/450 (with a LH stock that Jim had installed by Al Biesen) and that is both as heavy and expensive as I care to go in a double. It was refreshed at H&H, has a history and suits me fine!
I do like Butch's work and the stainless, though.
