I was wondering, at the modest velocity of the 9,3X74R, which would work better, a 286 grain Nosler or a 286 grain Swift? I am thinking that the Nosler would open up a little better and the Swift might be a little too "tough." Dave I've been a Swift a-frame fan for over 20 years and it's my go to bullet. I actually believe the Swift would open up (mushroom) more due to the backup bulge below the a-frame at those velocities and the Nosler not open up quite as well thus penetrate better. I’ve used both in the 9.3X74R double rifles and I find the Nosler Partitions open faster than the Swift A-Frames If hunting very large game like Moose and Elk or Eland and Zebra in Africa with the 9.3 I would likely use the A-Frame, or better yet the North Fork soft, but for deer and smaller game in the USA I would use the 286 gr Nosler Partition in the in the 9.3. The only one shot kills I’ve ever had on Cape Buffalo where the brain or spine was not hit have been with 300 gr Nosler Partitions from a 375 H&H bolt rifle. I’m a believer in the good old Nosler Partition! This is all a personal preference after all, and not a rule others have to abide by! ……………………………………….. .................. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith | |||

Dave, I reload for about a dozen people - mostly 6mm-308 stuff to be used on Northeastern whitetails. Between all of us we have used countless Nosler Partition and SAF. You won't go wrong with either. My avatar is a SAF out of my .416 Weatherby recovered from an elk at 300 something yards and traversed from shoulder to opposite hip. All of the Swift A-Frame bullets we have ever recovered look about the same. Nosler Partitions that we recover almost always have the nose wiped away with jacket from the front half folded over and flat against the shank. Never disappointed in performance of either in any caliber on any game. Use what your double likes better and go with confidence.
