Anyone know the lowdown on the Francotte .475 #2 that Cabela's in Dundee, MI has for sale? It is now priced at $17,000.... good deal but is there something other than a soft market for expensive guns that is keeping the rifle from selling. Thanks.

Seems to be a nice gun. I spoke with a man there unfortunately the collective knowledge of double rifles there probably could be consolidated on the head of a pin......not trying to be mean.....just the truth!

From what I could gather it's a BLNE from 1926. The wood and barrels seem to be original. They say the bores are good and the action is tight and on face. Due to the distance I've obviously not handled it, so everything, but the date is all second hand from Cabelas.

PS. Most likely a dovetail lump as most Francotte double rifles of this time period seem to be.

Thanks Brett... your experiences are the same as mine with Cabela's. The guys just didn't know much about the gun or cartridge. Hence my post... was hoping, like you, someone here had handled it.

Francottes are well-made firearms. Griffin & Howe used them at one time to make their G&H-branded double rifles. Provided, or course, that the rifle was not abused and was well-maintained, I would be confident in buying a Francotte.

Contrary to popular belief, I believe the old Francotte doubles to be one of the best double rifles out there..I have been inside them all and I am firmly convience it is the best of doubles. Austrian injenuity at its best, Just not many of them around.

I handled the rifle, had it sent over to wi. action was loose, you could feel the play easily. i didnt buy it as the cabelas mgr agreed with me and said he would send it for repairs. this was about a year ago, may have been fixed by now.
