Hi friends, as some of you know: I had written some articles about hunting, guns, some about english guns. I write in the moment about an old german hunter. He lives from 1950 - 1970 in Tansania as an "Elephant-Officer" and as an hunter. He has an old "William Evans from Purdy" (this is engraved of the barrels, also the caliber .450 No. 2) double rifle. With the number 69XXX. QUESTIONS: Has anybody some Infos about this gun? Or the same modell? Or? Best wishes. Bockhunter

...of course I had written to William Evans (no answere) and to Purdey (answere is following): Dear XXXX, Thank you for your email which Pippa has forwarded to me. Unfortunately I have to advise you that the rifle is not made by Purdey, but is made by William Evans Gunmakers. William Evans used to work for Purdey in the 1800s and so when he started to make guns and rifles on his own he used to put William Evans “from Purdey” on his products. As such, I recommend that for a history or for more information, you should contact William Evans Ltd, whose details can be found on their website http://www.williamevans.com/ I am sorry I cannot help you more about this rifle. Kind regards George Juer Gun Sales Associate

I like the drop of the stock pictured. That is how they should be made for serious open sight shooters. The stock-maker knew what he was doing -thats for sure.

Other than the obvious Round Body Back Action Jones Rotary Under Lever Appears to have Rebounding Hammers The barrels should have a street address on them such as NO 63 Pall Mall. As mentioned Evans did work for Purdy and then spent 12 years working for H&H before setting up his first shop in 1883.

Are you sure it's a 5 digit serial number? Should be 4 and if so places the gun around 1904-1905

Sorry, no specific info on Hammer guns by WE, only the little I have read in various books on the subject. It is scattered and not detailed. I would call WE, nice folks and I am sure they will assist you. Cheers, 470EDDY

I believe EVANS work is HIGHLY regarded. D/R Hunter Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...
