Regarding double rifles Pondoro recom-

mended 10.5 pounds weight for the 500 NE,

and he liked the 450/400 at 9.5 pounds.

I can't recall seeing his opinion on the

desired weight of a 375 Flanged Magnum DR.

Did we on this forum come to some sort of

agreement at 8 or 8.5 pounds? What do the

9.3x74R rifles usually come in at? Thanks guys.

7.5 to 8.5 pounds seems to be the range of weights that I have seen on 9.3x74R doubles since I have started paying attention to them as a possible basis for a 10.03x74R AKA 400/.395 Nitro Express Aboriginal Revival:

It was Holland's cartridge. They built their best grade .375 Flanged Magnum rifles at 9.5 to 10.5 lbs or so, and still do. They have two new Royals listed, one at 9 lbs, 9 oz, and one at 10 lbs, 2 oz. They also have a new Round Action in 9.3X74R that's 9.5.

Well Mark,

At 9.5 pounds or heavier they should be recoil

friendly for about any man and most women too.

All,

A bit under 9 pounds it would be a light carry and recoil would still

be acceptable for most people I'd think. Eight pounds or less might

be too much recoil for a lot of folks though. I think I'd like to try one

for a month or so with a few hundred rounds to fire at about 8 and
3/4 pnds, give or take 3 oz. wave

Jack,

My 375H&H double weighs in at 8.5lbs. Recoil is not an issue. BTW, my 375H&H bolt weighs about the same, and as you would expect, recoil isn't an issue with that one either.

Thanks JPK,

I kind of thought 8.5 would work,

and a nice light carry to boot!
