Double rifles should not have to be sent out to be re-regulated...

And a factory bolt rifle shouldn't need to have a new stock, barrel, and an accurizing job perform its best, yet almost all my M70s have aftermarket barrels, stocks, and have been accurized.

The Sabatti is simply the Model 70 of double rifles. Both most likely work adequately in its factory form, but to get either to a high level of performance takes custom work. In almost all cases, the factory rifle with custom work is less cost and out performs the high end rifles. Without question, a customized Sabatti is better than a face-slapping Krieghoff and a both-barrels-at-once Merkel.

Many of you REALLY need to get off your high horses and get your head out of your asses on this......

Question? How many Krieghoff, and/or Merkels have you owned, or even shot?

Speaking of getting ones head out of his ass. If you believe a Sabatti is equal to either one of the makes you are cussing, You need to follow your own advice!

A Rolls or a Ford will both get one from point A to point B. It all depends what kind of ride one likes.

if they are good enough for your level of shooting, who are the rest of the members here to attempt to persuade you to upgrade.

The Sabatti's have been well documented here over the past couple of years.

Cal,

go in style, Jaguar XK-8 convertible. Put the top down and let the wind blow what is left of your hair around. I greatly enjoy even taking trips to the VA Medical Center and Boise traffic in mine the past several years.

Isn't it amazing that some people will spend the per capita GDP of many developing countries on a rifle that needs "fixing"? LOL!

In loading for Boarkiller's Sabatti 450, we found that even with full length sizing (Hornady brass and Hornady dies) the cartidge needed a little push to fully seat in the chamber. The 500 NE ctgs fall into the chamber fully. The chambers are small somewhere or the sizer is big. Anyone else find this on theirs? Even the factory loads need a push the last 1/4".

My .450 NE loads fine, with factory ammo or reloads . . . but then again apparently I got the pick of the litter. Big Grin

Would that be pick of this litter?

Or maybe this litter?

Or this litter?

I find it difficult to comprehend that a thread on Sabatti rifles generates this many posts and views.

For the Sabatti detractors, how many of your doubles shoot that well? Please post pictures of 50 yard, six shot targets that show groups that small or smaller.

The point is not that a Sabatti is something that it is not . . . it is a cheap, low grade double. The point is that even a Sabatti can be perfectly functional and some are capable of good accuracy. In the hands of a real shooter like George, hell this rifle might shoot all six shots in one damn hole!

Well, George's shooting IS legendary after all. And the only thing keeping the Sabatti brand from being the best DR in the world is the fact that George doesn't own one!!

That's true. All I own is garbage (according to George).

Mike, if you ever get tired of her, keep me in mind.
As to new guns needing work out of the box, a Ruger Blackhawk always needs a trigger job and usually needs a Taylor throat or at least firelapping to correct the constriction at the throat of the barrel. And yet people still buy them.
Of course, we are talking about a firearm one tenth the price of a Sabatti.

There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

The only gun I have ever owned that didn't need some work is my R8 Blaser. The .270 Win. barrel shoots three shots into a dime size group at 200Yards and the 9.3 x 62 barrel is well under an inch at 100 yds with factory ammo. MY SABATTI is at Aarons at the moment for a little "fine tuning". Awesome little gun. Have no need or want for any other double.

Interesting what Larry wrote above. As you all know I am a fan of vintage English or Scottish doubles and, just the opposite of Larry's experiences, just about never have I had to do repair work to an old double, and I've owned dozens. Yes, I've had some cosmetic work done such as bluing the barrels or refinishing the stock. And I've had repairs done from falls or accidents. But, if my memory serves, I had the ejector timing adjusted on a Harrison and Hussey .450-400 and that's about all I can recall. I guess the older rifles and shotguns are well used and broken in over time.
When I read here on AR all of the adjustments that need to be done to new rifles I ask myself "Why not just by an old one?"
Cheers, all.

"Good enough for my level of shooting..." You crack me up! Smiler My level of shooting includes two club agg records (4.91 and 4.71) in light gun at 1000 yds with a best group of 3.5" and a best score of 50-3x, which tied the world record at the time. It also includes clean offhand shots at moving big game and a middle of the pack finish in the two Highpower matches I shot. I manage 1/2" to 3/4" groups with my hunting rifles is chamberings from 30-06 to 416 Rem. So yeah, a DR that shoots 3/4" groups at 50 yds is "good enough for my level of shooting......" LOL!!!

BTW, I wasn't trying to be nasty to you, just sarcastically humorous. To that end I failed. I should have said "there are some here who need to get their heads out of their high horses asses". And put a smiley fact on it. That would have been funnier......

I think I need to start a new club here. The NHUYHHADRSC. Stands for Non Head Up Your High Horse Ass Double Rifle Shooters Club.

Who all here could make the cut? Smiler

Now, if someone doesn't spit out their coffee laughing after reading that, then we are all too uptight.....

I wouldn't mind owning that Sabatti, few high dollar doubles shoot that well..Its been touted that minute of grapefruit is allowable, maybe to some but I personally might want to shoot something in the eye that intends to bite or hook me...

Ive heard this same argument made over the Win. 94, 30-30 over the years, but I love the gun and I love the caliber..

Never owned a Sabatti, probably never will, but a "good" cheap gun suits me just fine, and better than a $100,000 dollar double that shoots all over the target....Good and bad guns are fairly common in every make and mode.

Besides with the airlines what they are today in the third world, I don't like the idea of traveling with a high dollar rifle, prefer a good reliable working gun, bolt or double. Sure you can insure those wonderful rifles but most of the time they cannot be replaced with money.
