We really like the pelican brand cases for travel, but as most of us have experienced, cutting out the foam can be a pain, and the results don't always look very professional.

Here is our solution…

The HEYM travel bag is designed to fit into a Pelican 1700. Two bags here. Both made with 1000 denier cordura.

> The larger bag is padded inside and divided into two compartments: one for the barrels & forend and one for the buttstock.

> Although intended for cleaning items, the smaller bag is also padded and will hold any number of items you might need on a hunt or in the cruiser.

Here you can see the two separate bags. Note that the rifle bag folds in half with handles in the middle for easy carry, while the two adjustable buckles keep the bag securely closed.

Here you can see the components on top of their respective compartments.

Here you can see how both bags look (rifle bag unfolded) just before closing the case for travel.

Here is a look at the inside of the case.

Both buttstock and barrels have soft socks they slide into before going into the padded case (extra precaution to protect finish.)

Both the buttstock and barrel compartments velcro and buckle closed to ensure that nothing comes out while carrying the case.

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

Good idea. Depending on what someone already has seems like you could do something similar with a Boyt takedown case and simply cut a square piece out of the foam of a Pelikan hard case. Lay the Boyt case in the cut out.

Owning the Boyt--
it is not a bad case for short careful travel-

However, there is basically no padding between the barrels and the stock.

Over long travel, and rough baggage handling, you will find barrel/stock contact through the thin divider between the two halves.

Looks good.

I still need a gun case for on the truck. I would not like to break the gun down and reassemble each time. I have ended up with a heavy stiff leather case(much like the wonderful cases from Dick Murray) for on the truck, and it fits in the tuff pack for the plane.

Thanks for the compliments. We are quite pleased with this set.

A couple of points:

The rifle bag is really designed for use in the pelican or for light travel: in the car, to and from the range, etc....

I agree that take-down cases are not really practical on the hunting truck where you need fast access to a rifle.

If you want to travel with a long case, we make leather cases for the truck. They offer the best protection in the field, but do require a longer case for travel. They are patterned specifically for our rifles to hold them securely.

We use the tuff-pack cases too, but I see baggage handlers standing them up on end. If the case falls over, there's a lot of weight/momentum inside to break a stock when the case hits the ground. Most guys put the barrels in first, and that can make it even worse when they fall, as it's the stock end that takes all of the energy from the fall. My advice is to lay them down on their sides when handling them and make sure everything is packed in solidly.

Then again, we have a lot of clients that want to travel with the guns broken down. For that application, the travel bags should work well in the Pelican.

A soft case for the truck can then be rolled or folded and packed into your checked luggage.

Those soft cases look like they would work with about any double rifle. Am I correct in that assessment? As to the TuffPak, I have padded the bottom of mine with thick foam, and the top has foam padding that goes on top of the TuffSak in order to prevent any stacking and dropping. Came to this idea after one of our AR members (who is no longer on AR and was banned) complained about having the wrist of one of his doubles broken in a Tuff Pak. What is the cost for the soft cases, Chris?

I am also interested in the take down cases as I have the Pelican case already. What is the price?

Goldeneye - these cases are made in the US, but we could certainly ship one to you.

The cost on the two soft cases below is $250 plus shipping. That includes the two socks as well.

We are waiting on our first production run, and should have them ready to ship in about 10-days.

If you wanted one without the HEYM logo, we would do that, but it would have the Double Gun logo instead.

Please phone 214.606.2566 or email info@heymusa.com with any questions.

Second barrel set is no problem, but it would be in a separate bag that rolls up in the larger bag shown.
