Using new Hornady brass in 450 NE 3 1/4 and Federal 215's. Tried to prime the cases using my RCBS hand priming tool and at best most of the primers did not enter the case correctly and were partially crushed when they were seated. Deprimed the crushed ones and used the built in priming tool on top of my Forster Co-Ax and it worked fine. Leads me to my first question, I am guessing the RCBS hand priming tool for whatever reason isnt the right tool for the job? Am thinking of going back to the RCBS bench mounted priming tool or using the primer tool on the ammomaster.

When seating the 500 grain Hornadys to the cannelure the C.O.L is about 4.15. Rounds chamber easily and action snaps shut. But most literature suggests the length should be about 3.95. Thoughts?

Thanks guys.

Are you sure the hand primer's rod is installed the correct way, with the flat up and the curved end down?

That would be my first thought.

Primer tool is set up correctly as I have used it to primer thoudands of cases before the 450's. Weird for sure, I simply can't figure out why it will not work.

Are you guys using the same tool and having success priming the 450 cases with it?

PS: Seems the priming seat rod had worked loose. Once it was tightened priming went "ok" but these cases must have some really tight pockets, which is good I guess.

Randy,
The only other time I have had a priming problem was with an RCBS Bench mounting priming tool. I thought the tool was the problem it was the shell holder. I was either out of spec or the wrong one and allowed the brass to move up to where the primer would not seat all the way. I changed shell holders and problem went away.

I was not able to use my hand priming tool for loading the 470NE. I bought the RCBS bench priming tool and have never looked back. I think that tool has saved me more time reloading than any other thing on my bench. Like Rusty I have found that some shell holders work better on the priming tool than others.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
