Cast loads in a 500 BPE

Gents,
I have a question regarding loading cast bullets in the William Evans 500 BPE I bought.
I have two moulds, a 340 grain and a 440 grain, both plain base.
I'd like to load some smokeless cast loads for it using perhaps the 440 grain bullet.
(I'll also try the 340 and blackpowder down the road a little as well.)
The Woodleigh 440 bullet regulates perfectly with the load Cal and Graeme gave me, 57 grns of AR 2207 (H4198) and a Kynoch foam wad.

My question is being plain base, (and I'm gathering the velocity will need to be somewhere near the smokeless load to regulate), is the foam wad good enough to help protect the bullet base, or should I use a Walters wad or two to try and alleviate some potential leading issues?

Anyone tried this, and what loads worked for you, to give me a starting point.

Thanks,
David.

I have an issue of Handloader magazine where Ross Seyfried does an article on loading the double 500 express. I could get it copied and mail it to you if it would help.

David,
I shoot 3 BPE doubles with NfB loads using IMR 4198 and plain based bullets. All regulate at between 1800-1900 FPS. As a filler I use dacron pillow stuffing. I have not had a problem with leading with any of these loads so I would suppose you won't either using your wads.
Best.

David:
The foam wad (or a square to toilet tissue rolled up) will do fine. You will confirm this when you pickup the foam from the ground after firing.

I've tried black powder with the 340-grain bullet but could not get good regulation. Probably due to the slow velocity. But, I was only using FFg GOEX. Other black powders that burn at a faster rate may solve this.
