Sadly, for me, it would be that what I can't do is hit anything with the shotgun barrels. In my experience a gun set up as a rifle isn't optimal for wingshooting. Any you wouldn't want to put a set of rifle barrels on a birdgun configuration and expect it to be ideal as a hunting rifle. I have several Valmet 412 O/Us with double rifle, shotgun and combo barrels. I have one frame with lower stock for the shotguns and a frame with a monte carlo stock for the double rifle and combo barrels. Maybe it's different for some folks for SXSs vs O/U, but not for me. I do admire the rifle and aspire some day to own such a piece. However, I'll keep a separate bird gun.

I have handled several of the Heym double rifles with the shotgun barrels on them.

They handle a lot better that you might think.

However what this type of set up is for, is for the traveling airplane hunter.
Now especially with the 50lb bag weight limit, just by having the extra shotgun barrels and some ammo you can get in some wingshooting in a place like Africa, or say Alaska, where you might not normally go to the extra trouble to bring a whole shotgun.

I wish I had had a set of shotgun barrels on all of my first Safaris. On my last Safari the wife and I both took Drillings and has some great bird huntinig.

I am not saying you would wannt to use this shotgun for a skeet or a trap shoot, but I sure wish I had such a set up on my first two Safaris.

Will you have the gun at Dallas?

I know that at one time, you could order a Merkel 141(e) in 9.3x74 and 28 gauge, but that combination would not be legal in a few African countries for DG.

Your pictured combination would be just great, expecially with a QD scope.

Looking forward to seeing it (I hope????)

sounds like a good rationale for a "paradox" gun

"What can't you do with a 375 FL and 20 gauge combo"?

Easy answer....................Nothing at all!

Very nice, Chris. My 375 FL is about my favorite double these days.

You need a .375 flanged and a 500/.416! No, you can't have it back. Big Grin

I really like the clean looks of the Heym PH.

Can't agree ... the Browning sets (granted in O/U) work very nicely with either set of barrels...but that is in smaller gauges.

What a beauty!!!!! I would love to have a combo like that when I hunt Africa God willing.

Any idea how much it weighs with the 20 gage barrels and where the balancing point is?

Best regards

The balance point with the shotgun barrels will be farther back than a game gun of the same bore because you've got the extra size and weight of the double rifle stock to contend with.

It's not intended to replace your game gun, but it's meant to compliment your safari experience by adding convenience and versatility.

With all of the game birds to shoot in Africa, these shotgun barrels can extend your hunt after your buff or ele are down.

Balance point can easily be moved foreward on a SxS by using a weighted leather covered guard. If you shoot very many rounds you'll need a guard or glove anyway.

As I recall, various weights are available.

I would agree with Chris regarding his comment, "it's meant to compliment your safari experience by adding convenience and versatility".

My response to the four barrel set is the same here. The balance and feel of the gun will be made to accommodate one specific element in a multi-barrel setup. The remaining barrels will fall somewhere in realm of "balances & feels okay" when compared to a gun made for caliber and purpose.
