I had a made-in-1998, unfired H&H 470 walk in today.

The owner wants something in the 170K range.

If someone is interested at that price, please feel free to call.

WAY too much in my opinion. I would much prefer one better made and more collectable from the early 1900's which would sell for about half that price. IMO, a no brainer. For that money (or less) order one to fit.

I'll take the rifle, I just need to remember where I put Cal's credit card number.

After owning a few Hollands, I would not buy another! They are highly over rated and there are better guns available for a lot less money!

Wow, aside from Maharajahs and maybe the Royals, I don't believe I've ever known or heard of anybody that's owned (sic) a few Hollands...

Agree, but sometimes it is the name to some people. Better gun at lower prices isn't a Holland.

However, some Holland's I have held have not been the best. Bolt action rifles and some DR's and Shotguns from the 50's, 60's and 70's

Nigel my friend, I must respectfully disagree. IMO there was never a better DR than the H&H. Unless they've been dicked with, they all shoot well. Jorge, I'm just a redneck with a little bit of money. Big Grin I do own a "few" Hollands and they are the cat's ass in a DR. I still prefer my Purdey in a shotgun. Cool

No one mentioned anything about "shooting"
and apart from one DR I know of, I agree,
they all shoot.

But I stand by my statement that "some"
of the guns that came out during the period
I said were not the best.

I also own and have owned a few Holland's.
Never been a great fan of Purdey's, more a Holland man until I came across one that
Extra Special engraving and was dirt cheap for what it was. Someone posted the "sister"
of it in a 465 double rifle the other day, exact same engraving.

http://forums.nitroexpress.com...arch=true#Post227414

Still prefer Holland's though.

You bet.

I would love to own that Purdey 465 as it
would make a great pair but it is way out
of my price range.

The oak leaves on the fences are superb.

I once made the comment that once you get over the $50 - 100k level, it is not price that matters but what the gun is, does it fit and
a whole range of things particular to that
person.

Which is why you get people walk into H&H
and just buy guns off the rack.
