I have a meagre collection, Man-eaters of Tsavo, a couple by Capstick. My favourite, Hunter by Hunter of course. I'm just finishing re-reading it for the umpteenth time. The openning chapter stalking a rogue elephant with one of his 475 Jeffery No.2's gets me in every time. I'd like to add a few more titles to my collection. List your favourites.... Rhodes DRSS

Months of the sun and hunter are the two best African books I read.I think after reading those two I became spoiled.Nothing can compare,IMO.The ultimate is Jim Corbett-that is a likea piece of very valuable art and in a class in its own.

I think the two "must reads" are - Bell's "Wanderings Of An Elephant Hunter" + Taylor's "African Rifles And Cartridges". And, Capstick's "Death In The Long Grass" is what got a good many of us involved or re-involved at that particular stage in life. He did a LOT to re-popularize dangerous game hunting with guys who are now in their 60s and 70s. Another favorite of mine is Brian Herne's "Uganda Safaris". There are others on the "to read" list. One is Ruark's "Horn of the Hunter".

I think one of the flat-out best books on Safari is Brian Herne's White Hunters. One hell of a great book and a nice guy to boot!

100%+ Amazing book with summary of all the great hunters. I wish I could trace those reference books and read them too! I found that book in a huge multi story book shop in Portland Oregon - IIRC it is the largest secondhand book store in the world!

I would say that African Dangerous Game Cartridges by Pierre van der Walt is the most informative book I have read in the last 78 or so years. Really a good read..and a big bore hunters/handloaders dream vehicle, chuck full of good information. That would be Powell books. I've spent my share of hours and too much money to admit there. I've found some great books on the shelf there that I've never seen anywhere else.
