500 NE 3.25"...

New to this section, gents...spend all my time on the Big Bore thread, as all my rifles are bolt action and .585 on up. BOOM

Will be starting a 500 NE 3.25" DR build very quickly...my first...most likely going through Searcy. Going with 3.25" for a slightly more stout load (570-600 gr CEB/NF @ 2200 fps) without the extra pressure, me hopes.

Any words of wisdom...?

Also, where the heck do I go for 3.25" 500 NE brass once completed?...can't find any at the usual hang outs...?

Respects,

Phill

Stick with 3"

Edit
The 3.25 gives bugger all diff, you can achieve what you want with the 3" and brass is a hell of a lot easier to get - or was.

If the 3.25" was that much better, do you think the British stopped making 3.25" or making very few of them ?

I agree with 500 & Doubledon... Go with the 3".
If you must build a 3.25", you can get Bertram brass at buffaloarms.com It is expensive and so are dies.

Mike

Normally with English guns their is always the exception but in this case, I think "99.999999999999999%" is dead right.

In 10+ years of looking at Auctions, web sites or know if people have a 500, etc I have only seen a couple and know of only one person who owns one.

I know of one guy who uses a 3.25. He's a PH in Zim. He shoots 3" rounds in it as he can't find 3.25". At least that is what he told me. I left a box of 3" rounds for him.

If you just can't imagine life without a 500- 3 1/4, PM me and I can fix you up with 30 or so new cases to
get you started. But the advise above is good. You will gain next to nothing with the 1/4" chamber length and
the expense to get it will just be fierce.
Good luck either way you go
