I can't really say, as I don't keep up with the Merkel model numbers at all. However, I've handled that particular rifle, although I did not shoot it. The finish is definitely a cut above the usual Merkel, and the claw mounts are nicely done.

My friend David bought a Merkel 500 a couple of years ago. It does not have claw mounts. As I remember he paid between 7-8K for his rifle.

State: TX
Description: Purchased new in 2006, this Merkel 140.2-2 in 500 Nitro Express (not 470)is "As New." It has regulation loads by Superior Ammunition (both softs & solids) and has had exactly 38 of those rounds fired through it since these loads were developed. The gun was specifically ordered with upgraded wood, extra finish wood (all pores filled) and factory-installed claw mounts (a $1,300.00 option). The included 30mm rings were also factory fitted, but have never had a scope installed in them. One standing and one folding leaf sights. 15 & 1/8" LOP over 1" Decelerator pad. Factory leather case included - weight 10lb, 7oz

The retail price for this rifle, (140-2.1) is $11,795 US,in standard trim, at GSI.
The rifle you are looking at has had a recoil pad installed, As well as factory claw mount scope mounts, and upgrade wood, and is still incased in the factory luggage case. The rifle seems to be as new, and has around $1500 in
add-ons.

I have no idea what you might get this rifle for, but you could shop around.

Go to the newest edition of Blue Book of Gun Values and use the following formula for NIB gun: (100% value + 98% Value) divided by 2.
Americans don't believe in paying for mounts/scopes on used rifles, CRYBABY so I would not worry about extra $ for that feature. Wink

Sorry, I just sold that one. But do have a 470 just like it (without the claw mounts) that I'll have online in a day or two.

The 470 is equally nice.

Thanks for the replies! Shortly after posting I figured out this was new_guy's listing. Congrats on the sale! Im not hell bent on a Merkel although they are very nice rifles and the only Double rifle I have shouldered (but not fired) to date. Im gonna try my best to make the Tulsa gun show next month and the DRSS meeting in January. Between the 2 shows I think I can make up my mind which rifle and caliber I would like to have.

Thanks, KP
