Been wonting a double rifle for some time now. After looking around for a while and doing some research on what rifle to get. And what was available here in Oz. Decided on the Fausti. When l first found out l could get this one with a left handed stock at a price l could afford, was pretty happy. They have been around for a few years and renowned for quality shot guns and rifles. They made some of the Athena shoties for Weatherby a little while ago. l ordered the rifle in 45-70, for some fun chasing pigs along the creeks were fast shooting was required. These are regulated with Hornady 325gn factory ammo in the 45-70, with a working pressure of over 42500psi. So can use Marlin loads safely. One day while looking through there info again at other cals available, thought it might be good to have one in an other cal as well. After a call to the dealer and factory, and parting with more $$$. Ordered a set of 9.3x74 barrels for it as l am tooled up for this cal  Cool These were going to be fitted to the action and regulated while in the factory. So l now have a nice switch barrel double gun  Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

When it turned up today. Was very impressed. The rifle was fitted in a nice Negrini case designed for 2 barrels.
lt is a light rifle and swings smooth. l think recoil will be up there due to the weight, but lighter projectiles should help. Not planning on shooting it from the bench to much anyway. Will be using 300gn projectiles from the Bullet Factory (locally made here in Oz) if l can get them to regulate in the 45-70. They have a hollow point about the size of a coffee cup and deigned for 45-70 velocity. And 250gn Woodleighs made here in the 9.3. Again, if l can get them to shoot.

Here she is

45-70 regulation target, shot at 50m

9.3x74R target shot at 50m

Nice looking gun! I assume you bought new? What do these run? I am not sure they are available in the States. Can you mount a scope? I have a Tikka 512SD (O/U) and love it. Good luck with the gun.

Thanks guys

Hi Peter. Yes, it is brand new. Havent fired a shot through it yet. l hope to get to the range shortly if the rain eases up. Will be trying the 45-70 today. Waiting on some lighter 9.3 pills as it was regulated with 255gn projectiles and only have 285gn here.

Very happy Big Grin

Nice buy Jack.

Should be very handy on pigs in the thick scrub, likewise Sambar stalking as well.

Until now I didn't realise that Fausti chambered rifle cartridges but there you go.

Cheers,

Paul.

That's a nice gun. Was there an option for double triggers or did you go with the single out of preference? Anyway, you know you just picked up a new addiction!! Those are two very useful calibers as well.

Nice rifle Jack, and as Todd says you have entered into the most addictive firearm type in the world, the double rifles are habit forming, and there is only one way to hedge off withdrawal, and that is to buy another one!

Mac. l have been planning my next for the last month or so. Just trying to decide on what to get. Maybe a Bradshaw Big Grin but looking at Merkel, K-gun and Heym in a 500NE

The Fausti only took about 4 months from ordering, even after adding the second set of barrels. They were very good to deal with, and very helpfull. l even got a few emails from one of the sisters (Barbara the CEO) with info on the rifle.

Well back from the range after trying my hand at finding a regulation load in the 45-70 for the first time. l know it was regulated with Hornady FTX 325gn. But l am planning to use 300gn. l think l need to drop about 1 - 1.5gn and it should be very close. As l dropped powder charge, the groups got smaller. After shooting about 25 rounds from the bench, thinking l should join Bill and say lm a sissy. Hell it came back sharply. The rifle is very light, feels about 1 lb lighter than my mates 141 Merkel. l dont think l will go for 400gn's. The triggers had a fair bit of creek. And the stock is a little short for me. But will get a slip on for a bit to try. But very happy with it and changed barrels and cal several times during the session without a hitch. The biggest prob l found was the front beed covered most of the sighting point and getting a steady hold was hard. Maybe l need to use a different target

Bellow are my first groups

Any advice welcome

Cheers

Had some time at the range today, still working on a regulation load for the 45-70. The barrels are still crossing, bottom barrels shooting over the top. ls there a formula to use when trying to get a regulation load??

Jack, can't help you with vertical regulation, but have you tried the Hornady 325s? Just curious how close the factory loads come to regulating.
As to the recoil issue, I sure noticed it when I had one of the very light Baikal side-by-sides in .45-70. I had a bunch of hot-loaded 405s left over from my Marlin days that were downright unpleasant in that Baikal.

Bill, l think of the U/O the same as a SxS just turned on its side Wink lf they are both shooting apart, it should be the same process to get them shooting together.
l have ordered some Hornady factory ammo and some 325FTX projectiles to reload.

Got out to the range last night. They had a fun shoot under lights to finish off the year. Tried a couple more loads in the 45-70 barrels. Much closer to regulating. Only slight crossing now.
l think the shot to the right was me thumbdown l think l need to drop about 1- 1 1/2 more gn. But getting happier with the results. Should be about 2000fps with the 300gn'er, hope to get the chrony working again soon.

Nice rifle!
Starting with the photo with the parts in a cloth and then showing them piece by piece, reminded me of a slow strip tease. Perhaps I have been spending too much time in my cabin in Alaska.

PS. I can get targets that good when I tape the target to the muzzles!

It is evident the rifle is crossing in the above photo. With only this photo it would indicate the load is too fast!

Then we see the same load coming together some in this picture above! Confused

Any advice welcome

then in the last photo above You seem to have it forming a workable composit group of both barrels. All these photos seem to me to indicate the load may be good, and you are improving you hold somewhat. You might try to hold with a six o:clock hold on a upside down triangle aiming point with the point of the triangle just touching the top of your front sight. This will give you a more precise hold shot after shot.

Again a very nice little rifle! Good luck tu2

Very nice ! I wonder how those 300 gr bullets perform ? I gave up on the ordinary factory loads here as they were too soft .I like complete penetration which I didn't always get on whitetails. I went then to the Winchester 300 Nosler Partition. I'm also using the Corbon 300 with Barnes .Both are excellent , better than standard bullets . Have fun ! Smiler

Thanks for the advice Mac. l felt this group was not that bad, with only slight crossing, and me canting the rifle pushing the top barrel to the right. But it could have just been me and my lack of trigger time. This is the first time l have used open sights on rifles for about 30 years. And l know l am struggling with them and aiming point is something l need to get sorted. l struggle with the amount of target coverage with the front bead. l had thought about 6 oclock hold and done a lot of searching here about sight holds and aiming point. l will try the upside down triangle. l know l am feeling more confident with each range session with it. Thanks again for the advice Smiler

Jack, that New Year's Eve target is the nuts! You've got to be tickled with that group. Can't wait to see you dial in your 9,3 barrels as well.

Try the 350 gr Hornady round noses. I shoot them in my 45-100, and you can crimp them in the rear cannelure for DRs, and get more room for powder, if the throat is long enough.

Very happy with that group Bill. Hopefully can get it tighter with more practice and a little more load tweaking.
Just waiting to get some 250gn pill from Woodleighs for the 9.3 and then will start on regulating that barrel set.
Lanny. l am only looking at a 300 or 325gn in that barrel. And to much speed has them crossing.
