Caracal International acquires Merkel for hunting

Caracal based in Abu Dhabi has acquired full ownership of Merkel, hunting guns and light weapons.

Caracal a UAE handgun manufacturer was reported to be associated with AR's own Saeed al Maktoum of Dubai at least in the early start of the company (Saeed - any connection? Might you be using a nice German double soon? Smiler )

It is more l9ikely that Merkel will be making a plastic stocked bolt rifle with a stainless steel action and barrel. It will be chambered for some sort of 375/404 wildcat cartridge.

I hope they continue to make the 141(e) model. I just shot mine at 100 meters and shot four shots into less than 3" with just a 2.5x scope.

unless there are a lot of left handed arabs you'll not be seeing a left handed gibbs or any other leftie rifle.

why don't you just accept its a right hand world and get on board ? surely you can learn , can't you ?

or continue to struggle shooting right hand rifles the wrong way.

Saeed,

If this is true, could you please convince them to include ejectors on their large bore double rifles. Also, a double in 450/400 3" would be nice Big Grin

They are coming with ejectors next year!

This buy off could be good, but I have my doubts! In all history of the firearms business, when a new "up start" buys an old traditional arms company, the results is usually a poor imatation of the origenal, because of cost cutting measures, and robotic manufacturing, being the mantra of the bean counters! thumbdown

The good news is that most UAE companies, especially those in the "family" business, tend to take the long view. They are not quarter to quarter cutters and slashers like we see so much of here. They actually apply what we teach our MBA's.

Look at Emirates Air - a huge capital investment even by middle eastern standards to make the airline a true world competitor and to make the UAE a serious international contender.

And with a government more business friendly than most countries (Haliburton is in the process of moving their HQ there), the prospects for Merkel look to be pretty bright.

I heard there are no taxes in UAE, anyone know if that is true? Is that no income, property, sales tax?

Jim, you most likely right in regard to the Dubai folks, and their business sense, but there is no history of double rifle technology in Dubai, or any Arabian country. It seems to me their treditional interest, with rifles, has been along the lines of bolt rifles, and machineguns for the most part. That fact alone would negate there being great number of artisans with double rifle expertise. Of course, they could always import double rifle makers from Germany, I suppose.

Bingo. You don't have to know how to do it yourself, just how to hire some one who does. The trick is knowing enough to separate a real expert from the wannabes.

in all probability they want merkel technology for other uses. most likely for products to be made in U.A.E.

they say they will expand merkel marketing in asia, middle east and africa.... plus usa.

THAT WILL BE GOOD FOR MERKEL BUSINESS.

i never read anything about them moving the company. has anyone ?

Maybe Walter can lead them.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
