I've been on the Cabela's website looking at ammo and ran across this on sale. It's Federal Premium Safari .470 NE for $149.88 / box. It normally sells for $349.99 / box. Sounds like a pretty good sale if you have a .470.

WOW!! Somebody at Cabela's...or Federal has been Smokin' something....at $350 retail!!

I think I last paid $160 or 170 for 470 Federal premiums....and that is good shooting stuff!!

That new Hornady is really Hot and whacks me good in my 470!!...haven't shot it on paper yet, but I DIDN'T win the last DR Shoot I used it in!!

Thanks for the tip...I may stock up...
Cheers,

Where have you guys been? Federal was $5.75 per round in 1990,or $110.00 per twenty and by 1995 it was $16.00 per round or $320.00 per 20 round box with solids.

Only after Hornady and Norma came out with the ammo for the 470NE did the price start down.

$149.00 per 20 rd box is almost back at the 199o level.

Of course there are two reasons to handload ammo for any double rifle, one is to cut cost, and the other is to get the absolute best from your rifle. few double will regulate at their best with all factory ammo, and many vintage double will not regulate well with any factory ammo.
