What is the best technique to use for cleaning firing pins on a double? Mine are sometimes not retracting after being dropped on snap caps.

ES:
If exposed hammers or bushed strikers, the pins are easily removable and the holes can be cleaned. If not, I have used a blast of compressed air, from the breech face, of course, and it has dislodged contaminants. Otherwise, a visit to the nearest competent gunsmith is in order.

Your snap caps may be the problem, do they stick when you shoot real ammo?

Brownells sells the tool to remove the pins. Call Butch and he will point you in the correct direction. This is an easy process if you have the tool.

Cheers

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! 'What the hell could possibly go wrong?'

Wade if you are concerned about the rifle action not being clean you need to seek the services of a gunsmith schooled in double rifles maintenance.

I recommend JJ Parodeax at Champlain or Dustin Mounts near Houston.

Nothing like getting your double service by some one who knows how.
