I noticed higher prices quoted on some doubles 88B Safari Heym & the 160-2 Merkel .Have there been Mfg increases? This is very disheartening for a doubles buyer since 2000 prices are up 40%.I can't take much more of this. Invariably there are annual increases from all makers. In 2000, one dollar would buy you one euro. In January 2008, it takes 1.50 (retail) to buy one euro. So there's a 50% increase in currency alone. Add to that 8-years of 5-7% annual increases in factory pricing, and they are up more than 40%.

Which is why it is cheaper to get into the market now than in the future, even on short term borrowed money.

The annual price increase is in July of each year. So it is yet to be seen.

For Heym and other European makers, a strong Euro makes it look like prices are increasing when in fact they are not. In 2007, the dollar lost 9.5% to the euro. In 2006, there was a 10.2% decline in the dollar to the euro. A two year drop of almost 20%. Since it is probably difficult for a firearm manufacturer to "hedge" against the volatility in the international currency markets, purchases and sales depend on the spot market - the difference in currency values when the sale is made. I don't recall Heym's price increases exceeding the amount of dollar depreciation. Lower interest rates means less demand for low interest debt, which lowers the value of the dollar against other currencies. Don't count on it changing this year - latest projections I've seen see a strong euro and a weak dollar. SCI Life Member DSC Life Member

Eurogun Imports, Inc. (Me!) has Heym doubles rifles at the same prices I had in January 2007. No price increase here for the year. Thanks.

Well, I am wondering if the large increases in hunting game (where a person would want to use a double) will eventually erode into the double rifle pricing game as there just might be more used ones on the market in a few years as more and more people get priced out of both hunting opportunities and the double rifles. Just how many buyers could there be for a gun over $10,000 when you can't afford to use it anyways? Maybe I am better off saving some quick-cash for those opportunities that are going to come sooner or later. I have been to africa hunting but it is beginning to get too expensive for people of modest means...which are about 70% of the clients going there.

Why is it that most guys mark the prices up as an increase is put out at the factory. To meitt is like a frezze happening in citrus fruit and it goes up the next day and the actual fruit would not be in the restaraunt for 2 months from tree to market. They do this to jack up the price past the true mark, so they can make more money now and buy surplus. A freeze is terrible for the farmer but GREAT for the distributor That guy at euroguns said at DSC that his rifle price is set at landfall stateside and a 2006 gun that is 12,000 now will be 12,000 next year it becomes a selling point and one reason he doesn't mess with the price when you try to play him. Pass on a gun on his rack and order one and then you wish you had bought it then. Trust me when you order a gun and the Euro goes up Heym will charge you but if it goes down they tend not to give you a rebate. But that is how it happens in old east germany, with a russian owner and a Heym Dist that still wet behind the ears. I just hope they finally got there import license.

I guess I won't trust you. I ordered a rifle from Heym at the end of 2006 and took delivery in December of 2007. The Euro went up against the dollar at a fairly good pace during that time, and Heym did not increase the price on me. That "wet behind the ears" distributor knows more about double rifles than just about anyone here. And I would surmise they have had their import license, seeing as how they have been delivering rifles throughout 2007, with about 30 or so delivered in December. Jim - Half of .500Pro's post are taking a stab at me or HEYM, while the other half seem to refrence a former HEYM dealer to whom HEYM won't sell rifles anymore. It's pretty clear who this is and what their agenda is.

Jim and New Guy meant no offense I stand corrected I guess it takes me awhile to process all the info I heard at the DSC show from the past Heym dealers Cabellas, NECG, Eurogun and then at HeymUSA and Hornady. With you being the US Importer/dealer you would be in the know. Alot different info out there. Seeing as you guys are the professionals I didnt mean to take any "stabs" at any Heym as that would mean I am a foolish owner.
