Hi all I am new here but have been resading the postes for some time. I like double rifles that load forom the muzzle so got a 72cal Kodiak. I haven't seen it talked about here so was woundering if any one had one? I haven't shot mine a lot and still haven't found a load that shoots good but will be working on it. Any thoughts on the rifle?

Tom, pretty cool rifle...like an older 12-bore rifle. You could probably do a Google search if nobody here is familiar with them. If I remember, it was meant to shoot round balls, but might be mistaken.

I had one and it regulated nicely at 30 yards with 120 grs of Goex FFG and .715 round balls using regular flannel 2" cleaning patches lubed with Bore Butter.

I have one in .58 cal that I've had for about four years but have never shot it! I bought mine because we have a public lands access hunting license in Texas for residents, and many of the properties will not allow cartridge rifle for hunting deer, and I like to hunt with a double rifle, so I traded an un-fired Ruger No1 458 Win Mag for it.

There is a Muzzleloading hunting forum on this web-site but I've not visited it, you might try that!

I like the idea of the big 72 Kodiak, but; one warning that had me a bit concerned was that after firing the first barrel the ball in the unfired barrel might move forward. Just that it 'might'. And if it did the gun could be damaged or detonate or explode! I dont know whats up with this, but seems worth being aware of even if it maybe something of a non issue.

i have one and it pounds game mightily. i shoot 130 grains Goex 3Fg and .715" RB @ 1215 fps. when using Swiss powder, 115 grains of 2Fg gives the same regulation with 50 fps more velocity. i have never experienced a PRB moving off the powder charge with hundreds of shots fired. i used to check after firing the first barrel but don't anymore.

I had a .58 cal from the old Trail Guns Armory; lot of fun to shoot but wasn't regulated at all; had 2 rear sights. It had a leg slug in the butt to balance it out. I don't know if the current ones have that or not.

Had one long ago and used it for many years. Like others, I would mark the ramrod after the ball was seated and always make sure that the ball always seated to same depth and that the cahrge in the left barrel hadnt moved by re-checking after the right was fired. I too stopped checking after a few hundred times since it never did seem to move.

I guess I would always re-check if I had ever changed patches or lube or cast bullets from a new mold but I always used the same things.
