I just saw a prototype cartidge from Hornady. They are calling it a 300 Weatherby but it has a rim a nd looks very much like a 9.3x74R. The TC Rep told me it is for there Encore but it looks like it would make a good round for a double rifle.

The .30R Blaser is exactly that - a 9,3x74R necked to .308

It also doesn't turn almost near the ballistics, I think it sits about between a .30-06 and .300 Holland about 2800fps/180gr. It could probably turn more speed but is no-doubt intented to keep pressures sane (also perhaps it is not needed to hotter?).

This no-doubt not what you speaking of, but you said it looks like the 9,3...and this one fits that bill!

Cheers

I understand about the magnum preasure rounds and doubles but this round did not look like it was a real high preasure round. It was very long and had just a small shoulder, nothing like the weatherby rounds we're used to seeing.

In the link you vill find a pic of the .30 Blaser sort of a rimmed version of a slightly necked down 8x68.

The .30 Blaser has no resemblace with the 9,3x74R...

Kayaker isn't far wrong. In a general sense, yes, the 30R Blaser is essentially the 9.3 necked down to .308" and shortened from 74mm to 68mm. While not identical, the basic case dimensions are very close. The 30R has a base diameter of .480" vs .468" for the 9.3X74R, otherwise they're the same.

The 8X68 has a base diameter of .522", and bears no resemblence to the 30R Blaser.

400 Nitro -

Thanks, I was under the imprssion the .30R Blaser was in fact the 9,3x74R just necked down and shortened! It holds acertain interest for me, but i have never seen a cartridge for it (it is understandably not common !)

I must admitt, I enjoy the detail you bring to your posts regarding doubles and British/European arms. Thanks!
