http://www.finn.no/finn/torget...1939630&searchQuery= Sidelock, gold plated etc. Almost unused. Contemplating buying this rifle. Not sure how availability is on cases and bullets however. I need to have the barrel slugged so i know if what diameter it is (dont remember the two possibles). Like the look of the cartridge but wont buy it if realoading will be troublesome or extra expensive.

Brass Bertram - I think, need to check. Bullets Woodleigh. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

When I have seen the brass I remember it running about $5-6 a case. So it is a good double the price of of 450NE. Would not stop me from buying one though if the rifle was a good deal. Mac

Correct, Bertram makes brass and Woodleigh makes bullets. I have had no trouble obtaining either. The Bertram brass has actually turned out to be better than I expected. If I recall correctly I got the brass from Huntington's. Nice looking gun but the trigger guard looks a bit odd. I wonder what is up with that. Mike

Mike I've seen that on a few guns. Agree, I think it is weird but must serve some purpose. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

It looks like it has a horn or bakelite triggger guard. Bullets for the 475 No2 will either be 480gr and .483 in diameter, or 500gr and .488 in diameter. The 500gr with the .488 bullets is usually called the 475 No2 Jeffery... The other is usually called just the 475 No2 NE. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Sounds like 475 is not too difficult then The trigger guard is horn. Not sure if that is a bad idea... Is it durable enough? The price is 10-12.000 usd. Not bad for a Ferlach sidelock? Have not seen it yet but seller says it has been owned by a collector and just testfired. Made in the 80s he thought but was not sure. How do the austrian guns (Ferlach) compare to the British doubles?

Norsk I thought someone else posted this gun up, only a short while ago. It might have been you, can't remember. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

It was me, this time I was more about the cartridge But I am still thinking about the rifle. Just got some cash and am thinking about selling a couple weapons... Purchasing this gun soon is not too unlikely if it is a good idea..

No worries. After helping kill your idea of the Krieghoff, I hope you find one. A 450 (458 cal) might be an easier solution. Have you looked at the UK Auctions or is import too hard ? Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

Ok, going to look around at UK auctions...

Something very sexy about the looks of the .475 #2 cartridge. I love the big thick rim and the sheer size of the overall cartridge. If looks alone could kill, that would be the cartridge to hunt with. Mike

Norsk...the price IS right...Hauptmann makes nothing but quality...is the balance good..? Try to find out wich ammo it is regulated with.. Ammo is obtainable from Kynoch..

Actually the 475 NE was a 3 1/4" straight walled case that also used 480 grain bullets. Looks like a fat 450 Nitro. The remainder of the post is correct. 465H&H

You are right, post corrected. The "other 475 3 1/2" is called just the 475 No2 NE. I left off the No2 part... DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

The only thing I am sceptical about is the trigger guard... One hour drive to the shop, will take a trip one of these days to take a look... The UK auctions are a bit confusing. Never even been to an auction before. Holst charge 23% off the total as an auction charge? Seems like way too much if I understood it right?

Yes it is horn, if you go visit the brothers over on the Combination Guns And Drillings they will be able to fill you in on the horn trigger bow it's utility and strengths. As many of those guns sport horn.

Looked at the gun today. Very good balance and super solid mechanism (sidelock). Made my k-gun feel clumsy. The forgrip has been modified from being very thick to a more slender british looking profile. Wood is good and i find no cracks. Bores were not cleaned properly but rifling looked good from what i could see. So very favorable impression...Nice engraving and Coin finish. Internals of sidelock Are gold plated for corrosion resistance. Seller did not know if it was .483 or .488. He is looking into it until tomorrow. He also had no load/regulation info. Also did not know hos many rounds it has gone. Laughed and said probably very few. Seller will give 7.000 usd for my k gun .470ne He will not go below 11.820 usd for the ferlach I am extremly tempted. What do you guys think? 483 or 488 is one more preferable to a significan degree? Should i be worried it has been shot 488 bullets if it is an 483? Would you expect problems finding a load that regulates?

Should be a simple enough process to have the barrels slugged to determine if it is a .488 or .483. If I could trade a Krieghoff plus $4000 for a Ferlach, and in an interesting and iconic caliber like the .475#2 to boot, I would be sorely tempted to do that deal. Any idea how the Ferlach shoots? Seller does not know (store owner), selling for a collector (has never fired the gun). So he said he can not guarantee for accuracy. Says he has lit off two rounds to see if the gun worked. I will not be able to test shoot the gun before I buy (no ammo available). So it is perhaps a little risky? Should perhaps also insist on the gun being cleaned better so I can see the rifling better near the muzzle (dust etc from Storage). But rifling look strong and clean behind the Chamber (no eroision etc). Gun was made in 80's... The action looks really sturdy two lower locking lugs and one on each side (like a dual greener crossbolt)... It also has ejectors. they worked (tested them). Trigger guard is made of horn and local smith replaced plastic guard with it. Also there is a rifle sling mount on the Stock (see Picture) but no forward sling mount... Not sure what is up with that... Seller said they may have just tied the sling around the barrels or something... -What kind of sidelock action am i describing?
