Was at the range today, prepping my .470 for an upcoming ele/buff hunt. The rifle doubled on the second set of shots fired. Recoil was a bit stiff. Second time for my rifle, first being two years ago Any one else have this happen? I am hoping JJ has a chance to look at it before my upcoming trip. Suffice it to say I look at it a little apprehensive now, with a dg hunt 27 days away and counting. Any help/advise would be appreciated. Considered by some to be sacrilege, I would switch and shoot the rear trigger first then the front trigger. Since the Heym has intercepting sears it makes it sound to me like a "strumming" problem. Of course, that is just a guess. Mike

Mike. Pretty sure that did not happen. After the big bang, I moved my finger to the back trigger. It was slack. So I am fairly sure my finger was kept in place. Thanks "You only gotta do one thing well to make it in this world" - J Joplin

Call JJ and let him know of your issue and your timeline - he has done work quickly for me in the past under this circumstance. Antlers Double Rifle Shooters Society Heym 450/400 3"

I'd say that would be a sure bet! I have never seen a Heym having a true double fireing, unless the shooter was guilty of strumming, because uless one of the intercepting sears is broken they will not allow it! Mac, I hope you are right. But I am betting several hundred in overnight charges it may be mechanical. Again, after the rock and roll, I clearly remember (through the fog) of removing my finger from the front trigger and moving it to the rear. In the shooting world, there is just no explaining some things. Anything could happen. I would like the piece of mind knowing one way or another. Jack - JJ can look at it for you pretty quickly, but I wouldn't be too concerned if it’s happened only 2x in two years (unless you've only fired it twice in the last two years.) In theory, the intercepting sear could be out of tune or other parts can be worn. Either way, JJ can sort it out. How old is the rifle? Do you know when was it serviced (stripped & cleaned) last? I'm in Vegas now... are you coming over for SCI? We'll do whatever we need to on this end to help… jus let me know what you need.

On a 88B the sear intercept's spring is a really tiny little affair. It's the weak link in the system: it wouldn't take much corrosion to put it out of order, and you're then left with a non-intercepting sear. Once it's correctly identified, let us know what the problem was...

Thanks Chris, I really appreciate your help. The rifle is stamped "W. Germany" so its at least 25? Do not know when it was last serviced, as I am not the original owner. It's definitely due, as the spring that slides the lever lock back into place went out as well. Thanks again "You only gotta do one thing well to make it in this world" - J Joplin

I'd be interested in JJ's findings when he opens the Heym! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith
