I was just reading the lastest issue of Peterson's Hunting. There was a article on hunting Cape Buffalo and the PH was using a Browning O/U in 470NE.
Having always wanted a double rifle and haven't been able to justify the 6 to 10 thousand dollar price tag was thinking, is converting a Browning O/U to a rifle configuation a viable/affordable concept?
Thanks

hi, unless you really like o/u double rifles you'd probably be better building on a browning sxs like searcy did before he started making his own action.

either browning is plenty strong enough to take the 470.... or more.

now all you need to do is find the guy to put it together for you .

regulation can be done by jj at a very reasonable price plus ammo and return shipping if the "builder" doesn't want to do it.

good luck on your project !

The action on a double rifle is not the same as the shotgun version. I am sure someone will disagree but I do not think its viable. Look around for a used gun and you can save some money.

For the difference in outlay, you're better off to wait, save your money, shop carefully, and buy a real double rifle.

I've checked on haveing a set of .470 barrels built for one of my double rifles. At the time I got quotes from both the U.S. and a gunmaker freind of mine in Germany. They both quoted me $5000.00 and that was about 5 or 6 years ago.
By the time you have a set of barrels built, purchas the shotgun to base it from and wait a couple of years for delivery you would be kicking yourself for not just going out and buying a Merkel or Kreigoff etc for under $10,000.00.

David I think you would be better served with getting a "Proper" SXS double from one of the new makers.

You cannot go wrong with any of them.
Get the one that fits you the best.
