Larry most of the batteries last any where from 6months to a year. My mini aimpoint has been on my rifle 3 years now. http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/.../product1.php?id=RMR Mike

I have a couple of DO's that I have yet to change the batteries on. I have had them for over 3 years. I keep the cover on the sight when not actually hunting. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Modern electronic sights have efficient electronics that squeeze a lot of illumination from those small batteries. Aimpoint offers basically 3 tiered technology price points on several of its sights. The oldest one is about 1/2 the cost of the newest one. At mid-level settings batteries last a few hundred hours of use. The newest one will run continuously for years on low illumination settings. The middle price point model will give you ~80% of the more expensive model's performance. For the price of a round or two of ammunition, you could take any of them and replace the batteries for every range trip if you forget to turn them off. If you are traveling far away from home, put a few extra batteries in the grip with the extra firing pins or with your shave kit or prescription medicines. Two questions regarding the Docter Optic: 1) When typically mounted (as JJ does) on a DR, as you take it on/off, does it return to zero? 2) When the battery is replaced, must the gun be sighted in all over again? FYI, SWFA has them on sale for $249.95 http://swfa.com/Docter-Red-Dot-Sight-P49430.aspx Deo Vindice, Don Sons of Confederate Veterans Black Horse Camp #780

I have found the sight to be close enough to zero,it required very little adjustment on my last trip to Zim,and I think replacing the battery does not affect it either.
