Just working on my Verny Carron that was regulated with Norma factory ammo that is unavailable in Aus at present. Hornady factory loads work well but with a slow 2030fps speed. I have my usual hand load of 94grns of AR2209 with wad but would love to know what approximate speed I should expect from the NORMA loads the rifle was regulated with. Regards, Adam

Go to the Norma USA ammo site on the web and use their ballistic calculator for all their ammo and you can find your answer, which I think is 540 mps.

That looks way too slow - like 1770 fps. It should be more like 655 mps = 2150 fps for 480 to 500 gr bullets. Ok - I found your source on the website calculator & that is the velocity for 164 yards from muzzle! Look at the bottom of that page & it says muzzle velocity is 2100 fps. Norma website - https://www.norma.cc/en/Produc...g/470-Nitro-Express/ - says Quote - " Like almost all the British big game cartridges the .470 propelled a bullet of approximately 500 grains to a muzzle velocity of approximately 2150 fps and hereby generating a muzzle energy of approximately 5.000 ft. lbs."

My VC in .470 NE was "slow" with Norma ammo as well (avg 1972 fps for 6 shots) while my Sabatti is a bit faster, averaging 2115 fps for 6 shots with ammo out of the same box. Plus, the Sabatti is way more accurate with both factory and handloaded ammo. Karl Evans

Duck quick, incoming . . . I have limited experience with Norma ammo in doubles but have shot Norma PH in a .404 Jeffery. Velocities were consistent below published velocities. I have found the same with Hornady ammo too in double calibers. Mike

Strange.. I get 2158fps average with Kynoch factory .475NE in 23" barrels, regulates well at 40 meters.

Unlike Norma, I have generally found Kynoch to shoot at, or in some cases, significantly above published velocities. Same with the old A-Square ammo, some of which was actually much too hot. Mike

I started out with a .470 Searcy regulated at 2248 FPS with IMR-4831, and it was the rifle Butch won the world series with, it was a tack driver with one inch groups at 75 yards the norm and many smaller than that, all 4 shot groups..The down side was horrendous recoil that left me with a case of the jitters..I took it to Africa several times and it was a killer deluxe, but after that loaded it down to 2020 FPS and it maintaind zero and regulation and much much less recoil..Next trip to Africa and bingo it killed buffalo just as well, then Butch made me trade it back to him for a 450-400 guaranteed to shoot as well, and it did by golly..
