Anyone know anything about this gun apparently built by Butch Searcy, GI Listing #100758545? Seems like a great deal for a two barrel set in .470 and .375. Also appears to be an un-engraved sidelock or a side plated gun. Thanks for any knowledge you have.

My suggestion is to call Butch Searcy and ask him about it. I always find that he is very knowledgable about every rifle that has left his shop. This one is unusual - a sideplated boxlock "in the white" with 2 sets of barrels. I am sure he would remember this one!

How much is it? Unfortunately the idiomatic meaning of the term 'great deal' in that context can have two exactly opposite meanings depending which side of the Atlantic/world you are.

Cabelas is asking $9995.

Looks like the buy of the century to me IF the condition checks out. Great as it is to take hunting or a blank canvas to take to your engraver. Gorgeous wood, 2 barrel set. I bet it would easily cost at least $20K to replace.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I've handled this gun at Cabelas. It's a bulky, side plated box lock. It was once priced much higher. I understand it was once "sold" but apparently the prospective buyer decided not complete the sale ....

Can't say I was impressed in person. I previously owned a Searcy PH with engraving, ejectors, etc., and my old rifle was much nicer and better balanced than this one. I don't know what to tell you, but something just seemed a bit off with this one.

I talked with Butch today and he says it's a steal at this price. I'd have to know the stock dimensions before I jumped in. I want very little cast, and some of Butches guns I've shouldered had too much cast for me.

But I'm on the edge to buy this one.

Mike, did Butch mention if the 2nd barrel set was 375 H&H, or 375 Express, as the ad states. The 375 Express is the old Mauser 9.5x57, isn't it?

Biebs: IIRC the barrels are marked "375 nitro express", and the gun library folks told me it was a 375 H&H.
