It would help to know the maker...Leige is just a gunmaking center in Belgium. Make sure it's not a converted shotgun, or built on a shotgun frame. Need to see proofmarks.

I wonder if it is regulated for the 750 grain or 650 grain load. 465H&H

As biebs said. I'd be wary until all info is supplied. FYI, Shotgun conversions to 577 are awesome guns in a NfB mode and flatten pigs and smaller Buffalo and kill bigger buffalo well. .

That Nitro for Black idea sounds Excellent here! Jack OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}

I'd say its a converted shotgun/ 10ga most likely. John Maples is a pretty fair double gun smith and I know he has converted a shotgun or two into doubles. See if it has any proof marks/ bet it has proof marks for a 10ga 3 1/2 in load--thats it. Ed DRSS Member

I sent a few questions about this double last week but not yet received a response. Will share them here if I get any. NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

Per John Maples: "The 577 is in fact built on an heavy 10ga action . I have fired around 50 rounds thru it and there are no signs of loosening. The barrels are well fitted with all bites functioning. The action is fitted with bushed firing pins and opens and closes smoothly. The stock fits me well and felt recoil is not as stiff as my Jeffery 500NE." I like it! I'd buy it if I weren't in so much debt with everything else I am trying to do this year NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

Doc, $12K for a converted shotgun? I don't think so!

I was thinking the same thing. I'd buy a 500 Merkel before a 577 converted. Or build a Shotgun and convert it which costs about 3-4000 on an English Shotgun action. .

Alright, Ok, Sheesh! Just trying to be nice. Let me ask ... What would a fair and reasonable price be for something like that? NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

Westley Richards use to have one asking price was 7,500 so id guess around that range.

I was going to say 5 - 8000, depending on how much the action cost. As it is supposed to be a Full 577NE (as opposed to a NfB), I would like to see it proofed. .

Yes, still many questions, for sure. If it's just a conversion with no re-proof or anything, it could be a bomb waiting to go off. The quote above seems to indicate that the present owner had fired it about 50 times, and it seems to be holding up OK. Isn't that reassuring!

Fair enough - 5-8K. As far as "proofing" I remember something in these virtual pages some years ago debating whether that is or can actually be done in the USA. Don't remember the outcome but the underlying question is a great one: How does one know it is "safe" within reason and one's ability to test? This or any other "one-off"? Yes and No. Some great gunsmith's in the US who are more than capable of building good, safe guns without proofing (also some crap one's from what I have seen on tables) but a Full 750gn 577NE, I would just like it.

I agree too much money. Butch was trying to put together a run of Field Grade 577's for 15k a while back. Brad
