Is the DGJ still published? I have not seen it at my newsstand for a while.

DGJ announced some time ago that they would no longer sell at news-stands, only by subs.

It still shows up at my newsstand occasionally, tho.....

Is it just me or does it seem that DGJ isn't what it once was? Stories just don't seem the quality or breadth that they once were. Just my 2 cents.

Email or call via my website calpappas.com and we can see if we can put something together. I sold one set four years ago, missed them and bought another. Now I never read them as I'm more into vintage English double rifles. I will part with these.

+1 on that. He's the reason i subscribe. Sherman Bell has excellent stuff also. some things in the last few years have been head scratchers. they had a Ruger Red Label story not long ago. now it's a fine gun for the price but not what i expect in DGJ. I like Winchester 24's but i sure don't expect to see them grace their pages either.

I'd be interested in a complete, or nearly complete set if there is still one for sale.

WOW!! Wonder what the freight would be on a set to Tasmania??!!
We are visiting Hobart in January, cruising, just kicking around town this time as we visited there two years ago and did some extensive touring.
Wish I could pack up my set on the ship and deliver it to you!!
My set is complete but first book is a reprint. I think I can round up all of them around here...but not until we return!!
Cheers

I ship many of my Bore Rifle and .600 books to Australia. $68 per large flat rate box and it will take 8-9 boxes for a full set of the DGJ.
Cheers,
Cal

Remember the annual subscription has been $22-33-4/year, over the years with the First Issue bringing $2-300 in recent times, other rare copies $50-75/issue!! You will see DGJ prices posted in the older issues for back issues...setting the market??
I agree with Cal Pappas that since they have gone single shot and including some very cheap US shotguns and the deviation from very high quality English double rifles and Shotguns....I have lost interest and no longer subscribe!!
I think the value is in the first 10 years of old copies and probably have much more value than original purchase price?? Condition and completness prevailing!
Cheers

Hello All,

I have a full set also, not for sale.
I find the early issues valuable as a research resource, with lots of load data and information about doubles.
The newer issues also have load data and more recently filler information and test data.
Though there has been a shift to singles, many of those cartridges are also used in doubles so the data is still applicable.
And the pressure and filler data is always applicable.
I hate the new cheap cover.
But still upped my sub for another 3 years.

Unfortunately no Ross Seyfried article in the current issue. Also no add for the pipes of his son.

I've noticed the change, kind of reminds me of the change in Rifle and Handloader magazine. When they started, there was a lot of truly great info. But over time, while still intersting to read, they've changed. I suspect it's the need to turn a profit from a business that starts first from a love of the project. I'm with the rest of you folks on Ross and Sherman. They are both technically interesting, and entertaining to read, or maybe it's just I share their passion. The magazine industry is going through some really tough times. Hopefully they will all find a business model that keeps up the quality.
