I don't know if any of you guys are familiar with the Russian made Baikal SxS's, there is one on sale here in NZ on an internet trading site. I asked the guy selling it who is supposed to be one of the guru's of shooting here in NZ if the barrels are regulated for a particular load, his response was... "How do you regulate a rifle barrel" I thought I'd just ask you guys since you have more knowledge than he ever will. She was only the Fish Mongers daughter. But she lay on the slab and said 'fillet'

The Baikals are not really regulated for a particular load. Some rifles shoot both barrels level and adjust in/out nicely with the jack screw. Others shoot a foot different for the elevation at 50M. Mine is a 30.06 and shoots military M2 ball damn near perfect but I haven't put it on paper with hunting loads at 100M yet. ____________________________________________ "If a man can't trust himself to carry a loaded rifle out of camp without risk of shooting somebody, then he has no business ever handling a rifle at all and should take up golf or tennis instead." Interesting. I know who he is but he's obviously not a guru on Double's. .

Usually not very well, but some are better than others even in the same brand! The Biakal doubles have a little jack screw to tune the regulation, but I don’t think I’d ask the “GUN GURU” how it works! Get an E-mail to JudgeG who posts on AR he has directions for regulating the Biakal doubles and he will e-mail you a copy! He may be hunting in African right now but he will get back to you if you keep e-mailing him! ..............Back to my recluce cabin in the woods! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

You could always try the Sabatti method I have read about on these forums..... all you need is a Dremel. When the buffalo are gone we will hunt mice, for we are hunters, and we want our freedom---Sitting Bull .470 Chapuis double; 9.3x74R Mathelon triple; 30-06 Winchester O/U

I've been playing with one for just about two years. Yes, the owner can control the regulation, but it is not as easy as it sounds. Yes, the little "jack screw" between the barrels can add pressure to push the barrels apart, thus moving the point of impact closer together or crossing, you can't pull them in to push the POI farther apart. There is a LOT of trial and mostly error. To control the vertical regulation between the barrels, one guy posted that he was able to "shim" the barrels inside the front band. I have been using a less....elegant method - bench vice, large wrench and the application of torque. Don't freak out too bad as one barrel is "fixed" in the front band and the other is not - that is why the jack screw works too. If you get one my recommendation would be to set one and only one powder, charge weight, bullet and primer and STAY with it as every time you change one, you will have to go through the trial and error to re-regulate it again. That is one advantage though - you CAN adjust it instead of sending it off and paying someone else to do it for you. I've finally settled on enough H4198 under a Rem 405gr JFP for 1700fps. Last trip to the range I had both barrels hitting in less then 2" overlapping circles but left barrel about 3" high at 50yds. Went back to the workbench and applied my "adjustment tools" and a little torque and hope to try again at the range next week.
